  1. Editing On The Hard Drive

On the stand alone DVD recorders with a hard drive, do they have built in software for editing, such as audio and video timeline, fades, etc. cand you create a slide show and add music? Can you add your own editing software?

    Thanks

  2. Not that i know of. Panasonic has manuals you can download & check. I have a panasonic & you can edit on dvdram disks so you don't need the hd. Mostly copy & arrange clips (you can shorten them if you want) & create a storyboard.

Well my JVC Recorder with built-in HD doesn't have that. You would need to download it to disc and onto your OS and use perhaps a program i.e. Pinnalce to edit it more thoroughly chloe.

  5. On the pannys, you can effectively create chapters (simply cut points in the video), and then rearrange them in any order you like.

However, there is no time line, and no facility for adding audio.

Oh yeah I forgot on JVC you can also create chapters rearrange them and put in markers. You can delete scenes too, but as for timelines etc as I mentioned before you'd need to do that off the PC.

The way to think of DVD recorders with hard drives, for now, is that you can pretty much do anything that you could have done with a couple of basic VCRs, only more easily and with less quality loss. None available now will let you add music, voiceovers, replace the sound of one video segment with the sound of another, etc. For that, you need a computer.
You can change the sequences of segments, and do jump cuts, but there are no fancy transitions or fade-outs.
