No kidding. I saw the topic in the forum, with Craig's name as the author, and I ...well...let's just say that the fabric of my chair now has a crease down the middle ...

  9. Long bank holiday for me as I have today off as well.

No still not moved, very long story but I will summarise.

This has been a ******* nightmare, dont know if you can remember that far back but we originally sold our house, and made an offer on our new house in JANUARY, yes January.

Everything started ok Like I say we sold our house within a day, we had all the surveys done got mortgages sorted out etc. But then the guy who did the survey on our house said it was worth 5 grand less than what we sold it for. He would not budge either so I has to trapse round estate agents trying to find a house that had sold within 1 mile of ours for a comparable price. Basically I had to do his ******* job for him.

I found a house that had sold for £116k, we wanted £125k for ours but he said it was only worth £120k. This house was less than 2/3rds the size of ours, and the plot was much smaller. Not as much parking, no side access for a car, no conservatory, no en suite, no seperate dining room, much smaller kitchen. Basically it was a no brainer and armed with this information he had to conceed and revalue it back upto £125k. Anyway this held things up by another 2-3 weeks.

Then the twats that were buying our place decided they wanted to change mortgage companies, all that fannying about was a complete waste of time and we had to have yet another survey. This time it was ok and the guy valued it at £125k no problem.

Then there was a snag with the people we were buying from, its a divorce and apparently the couple had agreed on how the proceeds should be split from the sale of the property until the womans solicitor decided that she should ask for more money. This held things up yet again, and it was all getting pretty messy and they had a court date set. Then they agreed to settle out of court and everything was on track once more.

So we are getting to the point where we are ready to exchange contracts. I had always had a bad feeling about our buyer, you could never get hold of him and he would never return your calls. But on the odd occasion you could reach him he was all keen and still wanted to go ahead with the purchase.

Anyway we are ready to exchange, but our buyer has not sorted out his insurance documents or paid his deposit, even though he said he has. I manage to get hold of him after about a week of trying and he blames it on his solicitor and says he will sort it out straight away. About another week later, he has sent off his insurance documents but still not paid his deposit. I manage to speak to his partner - "yes we definately still want the house, he has the deposit, I don't know why he has not paid it. I will get him to ring you tonight" That was the last anyone ever heard from them. Bastards. Why no just have the decency to say we cant raise the deposit, sorry. Instead of keeping me ******* hanging on.

I was livid, I went round there banging on the door - I managed to get their address from my estate agent who is a friend of mine. But of course no-one answered.

So of course we then have to put our house back on the market, as does the woman we are buying from and the person she is buying from. So the whole chain has basically collapsed because of this ****, and we are in danger of losing our dream property. Bearing in mind house prices have gone up a fair bit in the 6 months this has all taken place and she could probrably get another 10 grand for her place easy which we could simply not afford.

Anyway we manage to get another offer on our place within 2 days of it going back on the market, and the chain is picked back up as it was before. We have just had the survey done on our place today (thats 3 in total now) and all the land registry searches have been purchased from our previous buyers solicitor to speed the process up.

So fingers crossed, the mortgage company should get the survey early next week, and send out the mortgage offer to our new buyers, and we can finally ******* move, after all its only been about 7 and a half months so far.

Told you it was a long story.

  10. Sorry to hear that I know it is a total stress out. I felt so sick throughout our entire move. We had one fall through as you know and that drove me mental and we lost a grand but in the end the bloke was doing us a favour as the house we got after was much better.

We have had almost everything redone at our place. We are out buying lights tomorrow (every room has a flex at the moment and that is all so the house looks like the black hole of Calcutta). We were having wardrobes made to measure and they turn up tomorrow. For the past 3 months all of our clothes, apart from suits have just been in a big pile in one of the spare bedrooms. I wont miss burrowing for pants at 5am

The thing which is scaring me is that we are thinking of moving again as she wants a bigger garden. We have made a killing on this place, we bought it for £237,500 three months a go and we just had it valued at £295,000 and that is taking into account a small bit of work which needs doing. So once I have done that it should be well over 300k. Its really scary to think that two years a go I was still living at home !!!.

The only thing that is putting me off moving is the stress, my job is stressful enough and I do not know if I could take it again especially when we would be looking at £500-£600k. I just keep thinking of the size of my home cinema room and the ridiculous gear I would be able to buy.

Sorry to hear about your place but hopefully you will be in by Christmas.
