    It is taking a long time converting files I ripped from DVD's to Mpeg. If I upgrade to a dual CPU motherboard, will it decrease the time it takes to convert? or is it just a fact of life that it takes so long?

    If you are using TMPGEnc then yes, a dual CPU machine will decrease your encode time significantly. See a previous thread on this topic:
