I just got a 200 gig hdd and a ads pyro case.

My computer, a Dell Inspiron 8100 only sees 127 gigs on the drive. I checked to make sure it supports LBA and it does however it does not see the drive.

I checked with microsoft and attempted to apply the patch which it said was already applied.

So it seems i must reformat and try again. Is their anything else i can try? I tried replacing atapi.sys with the version that microsoft said to but it still doesn't work.

You might check the Dell support forums. You may need a bios upgrade.

  5. Make sure your model case will support it too.
That's one of the things I noticed while shopping for an external case. Some do support 48bit and some don't

If you got this kit, there's no mention of 48-bit LBA. The case has to support 48-bit LBA in order to make use of anything over 137GB. If you still can, return it and get another (preferrably less expensive) case that supports 48-bit LBA. For what you probably paid for that (or less) you can get 48-bit LBA AND USB 2.0 in one case.

I can't remember what online store I read it in but it did say the ads pyro enclosure case doesn't support the 48 BIT LBA. One of the reasons why I didn't buy it for my 200 gb internal drive.

I bought that unit but it sucks. Windows only detects it 1/5 times and then it takes extraordinary measures to get it to detect it.

    Is it my firewire card

It's possible. Try another machine with firewire, or get another card. They're fairly inexpensive theses days.

We'll see if it works twice.

  16. When you reformat the drive windows has to see it for what it is 200 or whatever your running, otherwise your wasting your time installing SP1 after the install. You dont need a 48 system to get the full extent of the drive, You can go here and learn about it, some utilities you can use. But the most important thing is Windows must see it when you format it. Then install your windows operating system and then SP1.

    Enjoy,

This firewire/usb kit is A PIECE OF SHIT. Windows detects it 1/10 times and that's only when i opent the box and unplug/replug the cable and reset my computer.

I need something else that supports 48bit LBA

Video 1, I'm making an external drive for storage.

    Hmmm, piece a crap huh?

I have had absolutely no problems with mine. None...ziltch...nada

Plug it in, turned it on. 10sec later the explorer window open to it.
I also (for kicks) tried the USB connection and it worked just fine too.

    Maybe you got a lemon?
Maybe you have a lemon firewire card?

BTW, here's a link to the manufacture(china)/designer of the case

See if your pinching any wires, if not I would return it and tell them you want another one.

I just noticed that when the cover is on, it is pinching a red wire. I am going to try to correct this.
