  1. Hello everyone,

I've searched the forums, google, and asked some circuit city guys (haha), but wasn't able to find an answer to my Q.

I am interested in the DVP-NC665P and the DVP-NC675P players.

The 665 is the older model with precision drive 2 and 12bit DAC w/ 108 MHz processing w/NSV.

The newer 675 has precision drive 3 with 12bit, 54 MHZ DAC.

Did Sony downgrade the newer model and how much difference is there between 108 and 54 in terms of noticeable quality? I don't know what the NSV stands for nor can I find a description of the difference bewtween precision drive 2 and 3. Any help is greatly appreciated before I go out and buy one--thanks.

I don't think you need worry about it much, even a 54mhz chip is overkill.

When you're talking about players in the $100 market they're built to a price and things like "Precision Drive THREEEE!" just get thrown in to sound good.

Both will give a good picture hooked up to a normal TV and a nice picture hooked up to low end HD equipment.

Thanks for your responses. I'm not hooking it up to anything special--a nice mid-level yamaha receiver and a decent Sony triniton. I just needed something quick because my older sony DVD player took a dump yesterday. I was mainly interested in why Sony downgraded the chip and whether I should just go with last year's model for a few extra bucks.

  5. What is the difference between the two MHZ? Forgive the ignorance here, but I would assume double the mhz would be better.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Well if it can be decoded on a chip running at 54mhz, then 108mhz is overkill. the extra power is just used for picture "enhancing" features which are better left alone.
