    Hi Questor 42,
Yes my SD 2109 will play VCD's no problem. They MUST be on CD-RW media though and standard VCD not XVCD. Use the guidelines on this site and burn with Nero, i've not had probs with Nero 5.5.1.3 at all.

  3. one question with nero, do you burn the disk as vcd 1 or vcd 2 ?
i can't seem to find any info on the toshiba aside from saying that it
plays vcd but not what version of vcd.
thank you very much for your help with this

Sorry about the slow reply. I burn via Nero as ISO level 2 ie 32 character descript. Should also be ISO 9660 as character set. I usually don't use the menu function, but I believe this functions OK if enabled and set-up. Just remember with the Toshiba to use CD-RW media. Otherwise it won't happen!! These settings are for VCD 2.0 standard.
    Persist and you'll get there.
    Good Luck,

  5. Have a toshiba 2050 says same thing must use CD-RW, wrong can use Sony CD-R's or the 8x Frys GQ's uses same type of dye as the CD-RW's, plus I play XVCD up to 2520 bitrate also.

Yo thxkid, Yep tried just about every dye colour/silver style CD-R I could get a hold of and the Toshi 2109 spat every last one... maybe the 2050 uses different style pick up. I could only get VCD2.0 standard 1150kbps on CD-RW to work on my 2109. Dunno but is the 2050 a later or earlier model than the 2109?? Doesn't really matter, this poor guy just wants to get his to play a VCD.
BTW I also have an OMNI 3002 which is a Malata Manuf unit from China. Aside from Macrovision pain this thing plays ANYTHING (no MiniDVD) on any media. About 1/3 price I paid for the Toshi too!!! Thems the brakes. Cheers.

    with no problem.
