  1. hi all, this is my first time burning vob files from a dvd-9 to 2 dvd-5. i read some guides but i still get an error. so here's the situation, i have two folders with vob files, cd1 and cd2. when i tried to burn them with Vob Instant Dvd, the burned dvd-5 wont play on my dvd player and it says "incorrect disc". when i tried using TMPGenc DVD author 1.6, it says that the VIDEO_TS folder is too big to fit in dvd-5 disk. so i cant continue burning. i tried to shrink the size of VIDEO_TS folder with DVD2one, and the folder decrease size from 4.38 to 4.36Gb, now i can burn it with TMPGenc DVD author 1.6, but still no luck. it still says "incorrect disc". i think the problem is that the vob files are from a dvd-9 disc and im trying to put them on dvd-5 disc and thats why my dvd player cant recognize the disc. if thats the problem, can i just convert the vobs files to different file that is compatible with dvd-5 disc.?? i thought that DVD2one will convert my vob fies to different vob files that are compatible with dvd-5 disc. thankz in advance.

  2. There's no difference in DVD compliant files structures on DVD-9's or DVD-5's. DVD-9's can store just under doulble what a DVD-5 can, that's all. Have you tried ripping the original DVD-9 with DVDShrink, then transcoding (compressing) it to a file size small enough for a single DVD-5? You can also "re-author" with DVDShrink. I know you already tried this with DVD2One, but maybe give DVDShrink a try. Otherwise, you may wind up having to re-encode the whole thing to compress the file in to a new smaller .mpg, then re-author... which is time consuming.

  4. DVDShrink MAY need to lower the bitrate of the video if the total space occupied by your files exceeds the DVD5 capacity.

But maybe you could consider these points:
    - DVDShring compression of 85% and higher is considered by a lot of people to be perfectly acceptable.
    - In the latest DVDShrink you could blank things like Extras, Warning screens and/or use maximum compression on menus and extras you may want to keep. This way there may not even be a need to compress the main film.
    - If your film has multiple audio tracks you could keep only 1 and this in itself or combined with the previous point may preclude the need to compress the main film.

But you may want to keep ALL the extras/menus/audio streams etc. AND ensure the video is not compressed. You then have to split the DVD.
If you want to split a DVD9 to two DVD5s you could use:

    1. IFOEdit using this guide: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-2dvdrs.htm

    OR

    2. Use DVDFab. You could purchase the latest version or you could use an old free version. You'll find links for both on the DVDFab page in the Tools section.

Of course there are other ways but these are the ways I've tried it.

    Hope this helps.
    It wasn't me.

hmmm...funny things happen when you download a movie, go through the trouble of having to shrink it down a little more, only to find out that you've downloaded a PAL DVD format movie that won't play in your NTSC player.... Even funnier is that it plays fine on your PC with most DVD software (except media player 9 of course).

    How strange.
    Have a good one,
