I use v-dub with an ATI TV wonder card and XP. Did you use the sourceforge drivers or the ones from ATI?
-
i use the drivers from ati's web site
7.6 mmc does not work with my card, i tried and it said wrong card, so i don't know how come nelson said it works fine with hid card.
any other suggestions?
help please help, i can't capture anthing besides 380X240
i use 7.2 mmc
i need to capture in virtual dub something like 640x480 or something higher -
Well, I dumped my ATI TV Wonder VE for an Xtasy Everything. But when I had it, this worked:
1) Got the drivers from http://www.sourceforge.net - the actual URL is http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ for the driver. Read through all the material to make the drivers work.
2) With that driver installed, your ATI MMC software will probably not work. No sweat, they're junk anyway.
3) With that driver installed, you can set the resolutions to other settings. I got 480x480 for SVCD to work just fine, when capturing with VirtualDub.
4) View this post from modeler_us about the simple procedure he used to capture easily to SVCD format:

It's murder editing the resulting MPEG2, since it's not frame-accurate, but it's a quick and dirty way to get fairly good captures.

thanks tom
but i am sorry to say that your method did not work either because my card is AGP and it is bt829 and this card was not listed in sourgeforge drivers.
many thanks for writing, maybe there is no way for me? -
Tony - I said MMC 7.6 works because it does, for me and dozens, if not hundreds, of others. Possibly because we realized that since ATI specifically states that 7.6 is not for older boards so we expected some error message on installation and ignored it. Install latest drivers first usually solves this issue.
BTW, quality difference from 7.2 to 7.5 was significant.
There are numerous complete guides for installation of ATI software, typically involving complete removal of older software before new installation.
Tom - TV Wonder and AIW 128 are very different boards, each with their own installation issues. -
ok nelson, i have download and installed mmc7.6. it works great but again i cannot capture anyting biger than 320x240. i don't have that option in the capture window. i can do 480x240, 740x240 or what ever but i can't do 480x480 or some bigger. i can get it to work in ati vcr format or mpg2 but not in avi. avi will not go bigger than 320x240 why?
-
so i guess i cannot capture any thing higher than 320x240 avi in mmc7.6 or virtual dub with all in wonder 128 agp with 16mb. should i get another card, i can captue mpg2 or vcr format abot 320x240 but not avi?

I have that exact card and cap 720x480 avi in both MMc 7.6 and Vdub w/no problems. ATI cards can be very picky about installation, and most particularly upgrades. There are numerous guides referencing COMPLETE removal of all older drivers, install new Video drivers, new Capture drivers, MS updates, MMC updates, etc. Sometimes a slight variation in loading order makes all the difference.
Also, sometimes there is some other factor involved, many have reported success with MMc 7.7 (which allows 48Khz audio capture), I have so far tried this install 4-5 times, everything works EXCEPT the TV app.
But you have it working, just the available resolutions is a problem, I recall this comes from not removing ALL the older files first, try the rage3d board for some detailed instructions.
Side note for those who bitch about ATI, we are talking about loading new software for 3-4 year old boards, I have this same runaround for many other products, this is not unique to ATI nor are they the worst by any means. -
man i did all that, removed everything, ran regcleaner and searched all filed related to ati and removed them. and reinstalled new and up to date files but still same problem,

However, when I upgraded to W2K, I lost that ability. I can only capture AVI in yyy x 240, nothing higher. I started fresh with the ATI drivers and the MMC 7.2. In order to get VD working at all, I had to install the VFW wrapper. That fixed the basic non recording problem but now........ I have not found out yet what I had installed on 98SE that I do not have in W2K to get AVI captures higher than yyy x 240.
The ATI 128 is an AGP card and the btwin drivers just do not seem to work with this card.
OBTW FWIW, I can capture in AVI 640 x 480 using MMC, Magix, Video Wave and other commercial packages, just not VD.
If anyone has any other ideas, I would love to know as I am sure Tony as well.
