Dish Network quality sucks

I have dish network and I think I've noticed a significant drop in picture quality sometime over the last 3 months.

In low lit scenes - like characters walking down a darkened ally I see pixalation in the shades of black that I never saw before.

Anyone else have this issue? Has this been like this all along or has it gotten worse?

I agree, the quality sucks, and that pixelation (dark scene) really makes all the work you put into captures/authors/burns seem a waste of time. I dropped all satellite tv and now I just buy/backup and watch DVD's only.

Worse than DirecTV right now. Is it just me or does the audio quality sound like they're starting to shave a few bits there, too?

Just checked out the voom site. It looks like it has a promising future, but channel selection is very limited.

No Sci Fi network for one I am not giving that up.

It's been forever since I had cable. Is digital cable any better?

I would imagine you would use the same connection to your analog TV. You wouldn't be capturing in true HD but I can almost guarantee the picture would be better than Dish.

my timewarner digital cable is pretty good. i have dish network too and yes it does suck.

I had digital cable too at one time and yes, the picture was good for the few channels that were actually digital(mostly premium). Plus the picture would momentarily scramble randomly. I got rid of it because of that.

Well, if anything positive would've come out of the failed merger, it would've been a plethora of bandwidth...

They could've serviced all 210 DMAs and had no problem boosting the PQ to all channels.

DirecTV really started to suck last year too. I cut off my service for a few months but I'm not missing it too much. Cable (free with Internet) gives me the 2-3 stations I want.

My biggest problem is missing shows.

I play no favorites. I hate them equally right now.

I'm just gonna stick with my digital cable for now and digital Internet service. I've seen both Dish and Direct and haven't been impressed enough to make a switch. Either as concerns PQ or price.

I do not feel bad for not chosing DirectTV or cable for my TV viewing (although my house has been equipped with both).

1) I have seen similar poor PQ at my friend's home with his DirectTv programs (pixellation once in a while, PQ sometimes is similar to CVD quality !!!

2) I have been using regular antenna with a TIVO box, I have more shows and movied than I have time to watch. Paid life time subscription and now everything is free.

3) recently bought a HDTV tuner (for use with my wide screen HDTV), the PQ is superb. I have not seen any quality drop out yet. Paid 300$ for the tuner and all programs are free. Although there are not as many channels with cable or DirectTV, I still have lot more than I can watch. On top of that, most folks with DirectTv or cable spent lot more time browsing thru channels than watching them.

yea, they've been upping their compression recently to try to squish more channels into their lineup to for the digital cable/DBS battle.
