  1. Okay.. I have attempted to locate this topic in the forums and received no matches, so I am making a new post. If it's been addressed already, I do apologize in advance and would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Here's my problem, I have some aiff files that were encoding from an avi. Now, when I attempt to convert these files into AC3 using Apple's A. Pack, the files do not completely convert and A. pack unexpectedly quits.. no warning, no encoding succesfull, just the application is no longer open. The AC3 file that is visible does not appear to be complete either. Can someone help me to solve this issue? Thanks!

What version are you using? Have you updated to the latest one? Have you also updated your Pro Application Support to the latest version using Software Update?

  3. I am currently using 1.5. I know that this is quite an outdated version, but as I said, I have done conversions in the past with little or not difficulty and as a matter of fact, prior to the start of these files, I sucessfully converted a small file(just around 3-4 minutes) with no difficulties. Any other ideas?

I've had it crash before, and then I just re-ran it with the same files, and it worked perfectly. For some reason, I've found that shortening the output filenames to <32 characters also improves its stability.

I've also found that a simple re-boot and making
A.Pack the top ( only open) application,
lets it do its job. I guess it doesn't like
trying to process AC3 files while i'm
surfing the net, building DVDSP templates,
    with Photoshop open, etc.

do you have a dual proc? if so, you can download CHUD and turn off a proc and that's been the only %100 sure fire way i've been able to get it to always work. with out this its always been a crap shoot. single proc, i never have problems.

  7. What do you mean by saying that you can turn off a processor with CHUD? It is a dual processor machine.

Well, welcome to the crowd. You should be getting the infamous 'OS error' message though. It's a known problem with A.Pack and Dual processor machines. A problem that's over 1 year old.

    And it still doesn't work...

Install Chud, you'll get a Preference Pane called 'Hardware' that will allow you to switch from Dual to Single CPU. Anytime I encode a file over 1.25 hours long, I switch to 'Single CPU'. Most of the time the shorter files encode fine on 'Dual CPU'. PITA. Extremely annoying
