  1. i authored a whole dvd reel (i'm a film composer) with menus and a bunch of films/slideshows through dvdlab.

i have a sony 8x dvd-/+rw drive and was originally using ritek's then switched to prodiscs so i could print on the face

both discs skip on my panasonic rp62, even though i can play all other dvd-r's i've ever thrown at it. however, they played fine on my computer, so i passed a few the riteks on to people w/ little to no problems reported. moved over to the prodiscs and everyone seemed to be able to play them.

now the more i give out, the more i'm finding 85% of all players won't play them. i have a feeling it may be the drive (although it's relatively new), but is it possible it's the program, or what i authored?? or is there another kind of inkjet printable media i can switch to? what are methods would people recommend for troubleshooting & remedying as fast as possible w/o spending much money.

i compiled the project in dvd-lab, wrote the .iso in tmpeg dvd author and then burn the .iso in dvd-decrypter. the only reason i think it might be the drive is that i've tried a few different kinds of burning software with different authoring techniques, and seem to get errors no matter what i do.

this is my resume and i can't send anything out to apply for jobs. please help, urgent.

I had this same problem with a stack of printable Memorex DVD-R's. Only one in three discs would play. I eventually sold the lot to a friend of mine.

test #1 - burn on different media. if that doesn't fix the problem, it's the authoring or the drive. relatively cheap to troubleshoot.

test #2 - reauthor. you may not have to spend money, but you have to spend time. try the re-authored project on both sets of media. if that doesn't fix the problem, try a new drive.

Possibly try burning at a lower speed.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. Did you say that you are printing on the dvd rather than labeling? I have heard many people say that they have had weird problems like skipping after labeling dvds. It is possible that the extra weight of the label (though very small) would cause the dvd to spin funny, and skip. Try burning a dvd without printing on it, and see if that helps. Otherwise, my best guess is that something was messed up when you authored it.

  7. ugh

    yes these are printable dvds

i will try and run thru all these suggestions. i already had to re-author the project becuz the original file got corrupted and i had changes i needed to make, so doubt it's that unless it's dvd-lab in general.

both the non-printable riteks and these are giving errors on my machine, but didn't hear any problems from other people on the non-printed riteks. the first batched of the printed ones seemed to be ok, but now everyone's reporting back bad news.

thanx for the help, if anyone else has suggestions, let me know, here goes a week of headache.
