  1. Hi,

I would like to back up my entire DVD collection (over 200 movies).
But I want to copy the movies on DVD Double Layer (8.5GB), this way I won't have to compress and/or get rid of special features etc...

Double layer medias are pretty expansive right now (around $12 for one disc).
Does anyone know if the price is going to dramatically decrease within the next 3 or 4 months. I would like to start the back up around Christmas time when I have some time off.

    Thanks!

  4. Depends what you mean by dramatically. I posted a thread about this several months ago. It looks to me like DL media is following pretty much the same price path as any other media. So early on here you can expect a halving of the price every 8 months to a year. Part of the issue is the significantly higher QC demands on manufacturing DL disks. Manufacturers are turning out a high percentage of coasters before the discs even leave the factory. The only real force working towards a more rapid lowering the cost of DL media is the rapid adoption rate of burners. There is only the smallest of changes needed to the burner (at least for the + fromat). So essentially most new burners coming out are DL capable.

So $6 - 8 by Christmas maybe. Some said you could already find those, but I never could. Certainly by this time next summer. My threshold is around $2 a pop. So my guess is that is 2 - 3 years out. By which time the early consumer level Blu whatever will be out and probably worth waiting for.

  5. I don't expect a big change until DVD-R DL and/or 4x (or above) DVD+R DL come out...
