  1. I am going to buy a new PC for video editing and saw that the new AMD XP 1800, 1900 cpus are faster than the P4 - 2 gig cpu on some benchmarks. How do the AMD's fair in video ? Anyone editing on an AMD please comment. Also, I intend to get a pinnacle pro one editing board which does real time edits. Maybe with this bd., the cpu speed is not as much an issue? Your thoughts are appreciated.

  2. I'd wait a little on the new com, SIS have just released a new motherboard that can use DDR333 RAM, this removes the previous advantage the P4 had of memory bandwidth (read about it at http://www.tomshardware.com). Other than that at that level of processor speed I don't hink you need to be too worried about the difference, get a com that suits you, the AMD will probably be significantly cheaper.

  3. I have AMD athlon 1.4g on an asus a7v133 with RAID and DvStorm as realtime videoedit card. Initially I had bought IWill mobo with AliMagic chipset and I had problems as this chipset will not support my Dvstorm so after many frustrating hrs I dumped the Iwill and bought the Asus with the via kt133A chipset and am very happy with both this and Dvstorm. I do not know how much the Pinnacle Pro costs but I will not touch Pinnacle again after spending so much on its DV300 ( excellent writeup blabla during that time ) and after hundreds of wasted hrs trying to configure it and changing drivers etc..as well as browsing the web for assistance, I finally find out that it is a problematic card. In the long run it is worthit to spend the extra and get a good video card that gives you quality and is easier to get over problems etc. Dvstorm has a good support forum on the canopus site. I have thrown the pinnacle dv300 out the window some time ago. Check the chipset on the motherboard that u want to buy. :&gt

  4. Buy whatever you're comfortable with. The 1800 and 1900 beat out the Pentium 4 on most benchmarks, by the way.

As for realtime editing cards, maybe alyooy can shed some more light on this, but from what I've read, the DVstorm and other dedicated editing cards are very CPU-dependent. You'll get more out of the card with a fast processor than you would with a mid-level processor. Also note that editing is very hard-drive intensive, so a fast SCSI hard drive or a RAID array would be nice as well.

    SOFTWARE INCLUDED
    ASUS CDROM : Viachipset Series

Leadtek Winfast GeForce 2 MX Pro-D Dual head graphics card.

    Cmedia cmi8738SX PCI 4 ch audio card. 1 mic, 1 line-in, 2 line out, 1 SPDFX.

    Realtek 10/100 network

3x256mb Kingston PC133 DIMM CL3 SDRAM Assy in Taiwan model: KVR133X64C3/256
Pioneer DVD116,Pioneer DVDRW A03 packaged with Sonic DVDit ,Yamaha CDRW 201040 packaged with Nero 5.5.1.8
    Win2000. Dvstorm comes with Premier6.

I also have Dazzle DVCII which I use for VCD, SVCD and DVD capture from my VCR VHS tapes. I highly recommend using this DVCII as it is easy to use and quality is good but limited editing and nothing more than the most basic of effects, titles. However as I now progress to better edits for my home videos ..like reduce hrs of hols tapes to 2hrs summaries.. with great effects then I need Dvstorm tocapture as avi and edit with the packaged Premier6 which is great for both video and audio edits. There is a mpeg conversion too after edit. Although I have bought the A03 I have not had the time as yet to try some home DvDs as the cost of a DVDR is steep and I want to be sure before I cut after the DVDRW is ok.

So far my PC config has been able to do the above, my only complaint is the cpu fan is really noisy and I am thinking of switching to a quieter fan.
I have not used the dual head of my graphics card but will when I pick up another monitor.
    Hope this helps.:&gt

  6. Correction... The AthlonXP 1900+ and soon 2000+ beats out the P4 2.0Ghz in "ALL" benchmarks and area's of performance...

    Screw the InteL

Either get the KK266-R - (Sdram+cheaper+excellent 4.1 Sound + best overclocking motherboard in the world)

or KG7-Raid (DDR + holds 4 Gigs which u will need if u do Video editing in the such as your ram will get eatin up fast)

Get the AthlonXP 1900 or w8 4 da 2.0Ghz AthlonXP
