  1. Are there any encoder/conversion application on PC platform that can use a DV Stream as source and convert it to VCD's MPEG1 and DVD's MPEG2? Especially with the .dv file format created by Apple's iMovie?

Quicktime Pro for Windows can use .DV as source, but cannot convert it into MPEG1 nor MPEG2 as it support only MPEG4.

  2. Open it in VirtualDub (Make sure you have installed a DV codec) and do any trimming you wish to do, then frameserve to TMPGEnc for MPEG1 or 2 encoding. Need help with that?

  3. I do have a DV codec installed, but VirtualDub still insist on opening only AVI files, not quicktime's MOV nor DV.

The reason why I prefer not to capture my DV clips as AVI is because I want to avoid doing these time consuming processes:
    - Transfer Apple iMovie quicktime's DV to DV tape.
    - Re-capture the DV tape as AVI.
    - Re-encode the AVI to MPEG2.

It will be great if I can simply copy iMovie quicktime's DV to a PC to be encoded to MPEG2 directly. It saves lots of time.

  5. Hi Baldrick, I just installed it, but it doesn't help since it can't handle DV Stream format. It can only handle standard AVI's DV files. But thanks for recommending Panasonic DV Codec. It looks like a good DV codec for my AVI files.

Is there no encoder on the PC platform that support DV Stream????

  7. Yes, I managed to find one - QTReader.vfp, which allow tempgenc to open quicktime .mov files but NOT quicktime .dv files.
