Ok folks, because I've seen this happen several times in the past week or so, I feel compelled to provide yet another public service announcement regarding the "Big 3".
I have, in the past, made such blanket statements as "nobody here has a legal copy of Scenarist". And that's not fair, is it? Some people might have it.
But let's call a spade a spade.
1. The "Big3" costs anyone who wants to get it right now a BARE MINIMUM of about $25,000. Yeah, TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Scenarist is between $20k - $25k to license, and since Big3 only works with CCE-SP, that'll run you another couple grand minimum.
2. It is unreasonable to suggest to a newbie that is backing up DVD's that he or she "use the Big3". If I post "hey how do I defragment my hard drive" and someone tells me "spend $10,000!" that's not a reasonable answer.
3. While you can CLAIM that you have perfectly legitimate copies of CCE-SP and Scenarist, that you got for free... that's pretty rare. Not impossible, and certainly there are users on here who have them. But most people who use these programs in this combination have obtained them illegally. There are NOT hundreds of users on this forum using what was until recently a $50,000 piece of software to back up $15 DVD's.
So my message is quite simple - while it's ok to talk about the Big3, or to discuss your problems with it, or trade tips and techniques - tread lightly, and don't try to push it on others, since they have no legal means of obtaining it.

I thought the Big 3 was DVD Decrypter, Virtual Dub, and DVD Shrink! Man, I have a lot to learn.

Never happens. -
Nothing against people who can't spell - provided that they aren't native English speakers. If English is your first language, go back to gradeschool.
HOWEVER, the point is more along the lines of - the only people with access to Scenarist, usually, have jobs in DVD production. Not a job for the semiliterate. -

Probably the same people that claim to have the "Big3" legit, probably are the same people who claim to have the "Big O" on a regular basis.
Ok that was out of line, I withdraw my statement your honor....

The point is that the "Big3" represents anywhere from $25,000 - $50,000 worth of software. -

Casual talk about using massively expensive software around here always annoys me a bit. There are obviously pros out there that use this stuff. IMHO a lot of them probably consider this site rather mickey mouse. Here's a related poll that would be interresting to run:

The original Big3 was:

DoCCE4U
ReAuthorist
Those apps are pretty much all but dead.
DVD-RB is definitely the way to go these days! -

While you may indeed have a point, it is not the policy to stomp on people for what they may or may not have done or payed for. Personally I could care less if you have never owned a legit piece of software in yoru life as long as you dont talk about it or advacate it here.
The Big3 is/was a backup method, and therefore one that can be discussed. The same argument could be applied to any commercial software reguardless of price really. Just because it cost so much more or so much less doesn't change things.
Innocent until proven guilt is the motto of the day.
As far as not suggesting it, I have no idea what someones budget may be, or how much they are willing to spend. If they wanted to do a specific task and wanted the best software to do so and the Big3 was the best way to do it then I would suggest it. IF they said yeah but thats too expensive, then its time to suggest other alternatives.
My point is that this topic shouldn't even come up. If you say HEY GUYS I JUST waarezed Big3 omg cool. Welcome to yellow card land. Otherwise leave people be.
Your zest for following the rules may perhaps be violating the spirit of it. On other sites I'm on we call this "Hawking". Its not an insulting term, it just shows that some people have a drive for getting others in trouble by applying the rules int he strictest means possible -

When someone makes the slightest hint that someone else is talking about warez, in general, they are not really doing anything. That is left to the descretion of the mods. If one person wants to say "You can't afford BIG3", the other person is welcome to say "Sure can!" or ignore them altogether.
There may be a fine line between so-called "hawking" and being a little over-zealous in protecting this site, but I tend to believe that people who cry warez usually have the best of intentions. Someone may think that a person is an a-hole if they answer "Read the guides", but that person is just as helpful as a hand-holder, if not moreso. One person may think that the warez cryer is a jerk, but it may also show his loyalty to this site. -
it all depends on the attitude that is shown when crying 'warez warez'

True, true. Kind of like "Check the guides to the left" vs. "If you weren't such a total ass, you would have checked the guides!"
Or "Scenarist isn't run-of-the-mill software. Is your copy legit?" vs. "The only people who come here have no jobs. There's no way you could afford anything, especially Scenarist!"
