Lite On SOHW 812S and +RW Probs

Just installed this drive in an XP Pro system. After experiencing problems with my Memorex +RW's, I updated the firmware to the latest ("UAOQ")
Still can't burn to +RW memorex 2.4X.

The Memorex burns end sucessfully, but wont play on any players I've tried, inc. a Lite on set top 5000. Even the computer I burned them with shows the discs are blank after Nero 6 Ultra finishes. Tried the demo of NTI with the same results.

Anyone have experience with this drive in combination with these discs?

Can you burn -RW?

Haven't tried. But obviously it's a media/burner issue. Just wondering what others with this burner have experienced, since it's gotten such rave reviews.

Im using my 812s to burn to TDK & Verbatim dvd+rw's everyday without a problem. Have you tried doing a full erase with your drive on these discs before a burn? This may help if they have had content on them previously.

Actually, full erase is the only way to get the Memorex +RW's to work again after attempting to burn them in the 812. After a bad burn in the 812, even the LiteOn 5000 wont erase them.

By "work again" I mean they work (record) in the LiteOn 5000 set top.
I guess the 812 is simply incompatable with the Memorex +RW's (2.4X).

I also forgot to mention: the utility LiteOn provides for changing the bitsetting doesn't work with this drive, even though it says it's supposed to. I run the utility and put in a +RW disc and the utility reports it sucessfully changed the bitsetting, but it shows the disc is still +RW rather than ROM. Think it's due to the incompatability with the Memorex disc?
I can't try another disc for a couple of weeks because the drive is at a family members place.
