Hey,
I have JUST started ripping (thanks to this site ^_^).
My first DVDRIP was Episode 1 of Berserk DVD..
Quality is great, but after encoding at a higher res (512x340 or so) it has these damned anoying horizontal lines going through the image... i've reencoded the video like 5 times already, and it doesn't seem to be changing... it's probably something minor, but how do i change this??? (or fix this??) thanks

horizontal lines. Hmmmm. this can most likely be interlace. i am not to familiare with dvd rips that have interlaceing. you might want to try to encode with a deinterlaceing filter just to see if that helps......i have only ripped a couple of dvd's and i have not had that problem.....
-
Whew, Thanks
Quick reply..
But yes, I will try to use a DEINTERLACE thingy...
All i know about the DVD is that it's a HKDVD (Hong Kong DVD), so basically it's pirated, but it looks good, and i wanna rip it for back up.... (friends want it, i want copys for trading, etc.).
Well, godbless the internet...
I will see what i can do..
thanks for the reply..

if it works let us know will ya. i've just never heard of an interlaced dvd so this is new to me.....

Are you trying to convert from NTSC>PAL or vice-versa?
Do the horizontal lines only seem to appear during fast motion?
If yes, I had the same problem & solved it in TPMPEG by checking the 'Inverse Telecine' option under environmental settings. After you check this it will change the frame rate to 23.997, which you should then change back to the the correct setting for the VCD you are creating (in my case 25fps for PAL) -
um, the DVD is NTSC, and i am encoding it as a NTSC DVD...
but i want it to be a DIVX... (i want to fix a bunch of them on a CD)
So far, i downloaded a interlaced divx VHS rip, (bizarre),.. and i used TMPEG and used DEINTERLACE (Double feature), and encoded it.... sure enough, bye bye lines....
i hope this goes the same for my DVDrip, and i will attempt this tommorrow.. (today i won't have time.. very busy)..
thanks for your help..

yea...double = blend..but even though the lines are gone...there now is a lot of jumpiness..i'm guessing vertical resoultion has been removed or something...but anyone help with that...to encode NTSC DVD to SVCD with no horizontal lines and smooth
-
Yeah, you're right "poopyhead"..
the image does seem a bit jumpier..
how do i fix this.. (NOTE: i used TMPEG, which option in there should i use to make it look good *without jumpiness*)
OH YAH, and on another note,
I re-encoded the berserk episode..
oddly enough i didn't add any deinterlace filters or anything *i encoded before i started this thread*, and i simply lowered the resolution to 312X240... and it works..
looks ok, but the subs are bitchy (they cause the audio to be non-sync with vid).. i will keep trying new things..
man, i never thought DVD-RIPPING would be such a bitch..
lol
thanks again!!
^_^
