You could try Nero - this has always worked for me. Of course, there are a few other packages people may suggest that are equally as good.
I had a LiteOn drive that would not full erase a Packard Bell DVD+RW - a firmware update fixed it. You could maybe try that and see how it goes.

slicks,
Be very careful when flashing a drive's firmware. Observe the following:
- Select a firmware for your exact model. If it's revision 2, use only revision 2 firmware unless the manufacturer says otherwise.
- Do not restart, remove power or do anything else when it is in the process of flashing.
- Use only official firmware to be safe, no hacked firmware.
It is really very simple and safe to flash your firmware, but if you aren't careful one slip could ruin the drive.
Best of luck! -
Still using the OEM Nero 5.5.10.31 that came with my burner. 1000 burns and many RW erasures with no software related problems.

Have you tried Deep Burner? It will erase and burn DVDs (data mode). Use DVD Decrypter for burning video content.

Well when it comes to erasing a disk there's not really any best, its just a matter of whether it works or not. So for me, best would be the software that is the least bloated, or which I'd already be using for other things anyway. I just use DVD Decryptor to erase disks. It covers all my burning needs for DVDs and CDs and its a nice and concise little program.

Yep, it's kinda silly to buy anything these days when there is so much on the Freeware market that does so much...DVDDecypter, DVDShrink, on and on and on.... It amazes me is how much Freeware out there is coded so optimized versus their commercial counterparts...Kind of reminds me of Government vs Private Sector. One is usually bloated and inefficient the other is streamlined and efficient....You guess which one.
PS: Sorry about the hijacking!
