Hello I am having some audio sync problems. Things have been going well until recently, all of a sudden my shows started playing out of sync. The sound will be all choppy and out of sync. I have been using Mainconcept MPEG Encoder. I convert avi files to mpeg 2 files. I compared the working files vs the files that don't. From the Mainconcept Window I can see that the working files has the following:
Sample rate: 44100
Samples: 6106872
Bit per sample: 16
Channel: 2
Frequency: 44100
The ones that don't work have:
Sample rate: 48000
Samples: 6642370
Bit per sample: 16
Channel: 2
Frequency: 48000
When I check the properties of the files it shows me that the only thing different are the bit rate and the data rate.
The one that works has a bit rate of 111kbps and a data rate of 104kbps.
The one that doesn't work has 128kbps and 128kpbs.
Hope someone can help me with this problem

I think maybe you have your working files and unworking files mixed up.
DVD standards say audio must be at 48000. -

Nope, actually they are the correct numbers for the working and non-working. Strange isn't it? I have tried to change the audio frequency for the ones that do not work to 48000 and 44100. Still doesn't work. If DVD standards must be 48000 then wouldn't my authoring program not allow me to use these files? I am using TEMPGen. It does tell me whether or not a files is usable for DVD playing. And it does tell me its usable, just doesn't tell me if the sound is messed up. I could use another converting tool, but then it takes at least 4x more time to convert. But at least it comes out in working order. How does it do it I have no idea... Another problem with this tool (WinMPG video converter) is that I cannot crop and scale the file. Which I need because the file has subtitles and 720x480 is too big and the subtitles are not shown.

I believe TMPGDVD Author converts 41000 to 48000 for you, so there must be something else hinky with the files. What is the audio codec of the source avi ? If it is LAME MP3, chances are it has incorrect header information which is screwing up mainconcept. Have a look at this guide on how to clean this up

Thanks guns1inger! I took a look at the guide and used virtual dub to solve my problems! Thanks for the support!
