  1. Ok, I've done some reading here and basically +R is for data burns, and -R is for video. I'm a little confused. I'm gonna be doing a lot of burnings of xvids and vcd's. Those are video files obviously, but I want to burn them as data, so does that mean I'd need +R, or will I still need to get -R instead since it is video related?

Does it really matter which format I use? Like the disc will malfunction or something?

    Hello,
NO NO and NO! The two formats are essentially the SAME. The only thing is -r is SLIGHTLY more compatible for dvd players (I can burn both and haven't had any troubles with either).

P.S. Watch out for flamers!!! Here we go again!!!

Use DVD+R. That is the one I use.

Seriously, though, your choice. I use DVD+R and have not come across compatibility issues. But there's nothing wrong with DVD-R, either.

The only difference that is glaring right now is that +r will burn faster, and was the first out of the gate on dual layer burning.

Yes, they both have their pluses and minuses. Ouch, stop hitting me.

On a more technical note in support of +R, check out this website:

However, your average user probably could care less. Either works fine.

    DVD+R is bad.

    DVD-R is good.

DVD+R will leave you with a hangover and a pair of blue balls.

DVD-R will not only massage your shoulders and feet after a long day, but will also give you a happy ending.

Seriously... I use both... all depends on what's on sale.

  9. I have hardly run into problems using the + as opposed to - for video. I suggest you purchase the cheaper of the two if your burner supports both formats.

    Hello,

Smearbrick1, I'm glad you added that last line "seriously". Otherwise, I would have thought you were having some kind of mental breakdown.
