I have an avi
i can make it to svcd with dvd2svcd........i have no problems with colours or frames...........all ok there
My problem is to add permanent subtitles to the avi before convert it to the svcd, or add subs to the svcd.
I want to see the svcd in my dvd home player with the subtitles inserted in the movie.
I tried tmpgenc but i donw know how to maintaint the quality of the avi, or the quality of the audio. I can`t see any compression method in the audio or video (i read in other forums that i should see the compression method for the audio or video), so im doing something wrong
Please if someone could help me i ll be very greatful.
Im a newbiw in this, so explain me like im am........a really moron.
Thanks!!!!!

haven't messed with this myself but try this guide.
https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=262#262 -
I cant do it with this guide. Already tried with this........but i can't/
Please someone that could explain me step by step, maybe later i can make a new guide so a lot of people like me can find a new help guide.
Thanx! -
This is what the guide say (not to much for me)
Last just convert to VCD or SVCD or DVD as usual.
To convert to AVI,DivX or XviD with permanent subtitles use TMPGEnc. In TMPGEnc first close the wizard, choose file->new project, open the video, choose File->Output to file->AVI File. Select a video compression like DivX or XviD and choose an audio compression like MP3 and hit save.
Done.
First of all................SELECT A VIDEO COMPRESSION???? I haven't those codecs to select from the list.
Second..............i dont have the MP3 compression to select neither......
Third.......how can i do to have this options included?
How can i do to maintain the quality of the movie and the sound so later i can convert it to mpeg2 and don't loose any quality.?
Thanx again, im very frustating with these things......... -
This is what gspot says about the .avi i want to put the subtitle and not to loose quality.
Codec Xvid Bitrate 626 kb/s FP 23.97 QF 0.189 bits/pixel
Audio Codec Name PCM Audio Bitrate 1536 kb/s (768/ch, stereo) FS 48000 Hz
Stream Type and A/V Interleave
Type OpenDML AVI IMRR n.s. I/L Not supported.
Thanx -
adding permanent subtitles is pretty simple.
-load the avi into virtualdub.
-click on streams | stream list
-click on the subtitle stream
-click on demux
-name the file the same as the avi
-download and install vobsub
-play the avi and you're done.
-now all you have to do is encode the avi to whatever format you need. -
Thanks Jhon, i can make it!!!!!
Thankx to all guys, it was a pleasure to have your help!
Thanx again.
Last but not least.......im having problems with some movies, like School of Rock Vxid DCN.......i rip to SVCD with DVD2SVCD without any problems......but when i go to see the .mpg.........all the video is black and i only can hear the sound..... what im doing wrong now???
I am searching in all the forums here and doom9.org but seems that nobody had that problem. If somebody have any time, please help me again, thanx!!!!
PD: I will translate a new guide in SPANISH so all the people that was having problem like me, can have an spanish guide to help other people with the solution you posted.
Thanx to all

I load the avi up like dafreak, said to do..but i cant find any button "streams".....i used virtualdubmod and found it.
I did get an error about a messed up audio header tho if that helps..
now i get an error that says, the .srt file is probably not a valid .srt file.
I have the subs in either a .srt, .sub, or .idx.
any ideas what to do next?
