  1. I have various DVDs that have been created by the
    Panasonic DMR-E75V. A typical VIDEO_TS folder on
one of these DVDs looks like this:

    Code:
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 14,336 VIDEO_TS.IFO
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 14,336 VIDEO_TS.BUP
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 65,536 VIDEO_TS.VOB
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 90,112 VTS_01_0.IFO
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 90,112 VTS_01_0.BUP
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 1,073,170,432 VTS_01_1.VOB
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 187,594,752 VTS_01_2.VOB
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 88,064 VTS_02_0.IFO
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 88,064 VTS_02_0.BUP
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 1,073,170,432 VTS_02_1.VOB
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 130,484,224 VTS_02_2.VOB
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 102,400 VTS_03_0.IFO
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 102,400 VTS_03_0.BUP
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 1,073,170,432 VTS_03_1.VOB
    07/25/2004 08:43 AM 397,539,328 VTS_03_2.VOB
(there are 3 titles on the DVD, represented by VTS_01*,
    VTS_02*, and VTS_03*).

What I'd like to do is copy a specifc title set (VTS_xx_y.*)
to a new folder on the hard disk, repeat this with
other DVDs, create a new top-level menu (VIDEO_TS.*
files), then burn a new DVD of those titles. I'd want
to have some tool create the VIDEO_TS.* files. For
example, the HDD folder is populated with these 3
    titlesets from 3 different DVDs:

    Code:
    VTS_01_0.IFO (copied from VTS_02_0.IFO on DVD#1)
    VTS_01_0.BUP (copied from VTS_02_0.BUP on DVD#1)
    VTS_01_1.VOB (copied from VTS_02_1.IFO on DVD#1)
    VTS_01_2.VOB (copied from VTS_02_2.IFO on DVD#1)
    VTS_02_0.IFO (copied from VTS_01_0.IFO on DVD#2)
    VTS_02_0.BUP (copied from VTS_01_0.BUP on DVD#2)
    VTS_02_1.VOB (copied from VTS_01_1.VOB on DVD#2)
    VTS_02_2.VOB (copied from VTS_01_2.VOB on DVD#2)
    VTS_03_0.IFO (copied from VTS_01_0.IFO on DVD#3)
    VTS_03_0.BUP (copied from VTS_01_0.BUP on DVD#3)
    VTS_03_1.VOB (copied from VTS_01_1.VOB on DVD#3)
    VTS_03_2.VOB (copied from VTS_01_2.VOB on DVD#3)
Then the tool uses the folder to create these:

    Code:
    VIDEO_TS.IFO (created by tool)
    VIDEO_TS.BUP (created by tool)
    VIDEO_TS.VOB (created by tool)
Shouldn't it be the case that creating the VIDEO_TS.IFO
is a simple process, without having to re-author
everything? I thought that IFOEdit would do this, but
it doesn't appear to do so. TDA will definitely
    re-author everything.

Is there any tool that will just create the VIDEO_TS*
files and leave the others alone?

If you want to create a new menu system, I see no other way but to re-author. Like you've mentioned, use TDA.

Plus, the re-authoring process is nothing (20 minutes?) since the files are already DVD compliant.

  3. I recall from earlier experiments that TDA recreates the .VOB files using its own buffering technique (the resulting .VOB files are different sizes) and that the total time was probably more like an hour. TDA doesn't appear to give you an opportunity to start with a folder already populated with everything but the VIDEO_TS.* files.
