Hi All. I have a VCD Mpeg File (758mb) I can play this file perfectly on my PC.

I tried to put the file onto a DVD-R using TMPGEnc DVD Author - TMPGEnc DVD Author creates the DVD files but theres a lot missing.

Also I have tried to put the file on a VCD using Nero 6 Ultra, VCD Easy with no luck at all.

    Pictures:

    File Information taken by Virtualdub:

    Error log created by Virtualdub:

Would it be possible for me to fix these errors, and if so, how would I go about doing the repair?

P.S. I tried loading the file into DVD-Lab with no luck at all; "cannot open this file" error.

Any Help at all Greatly Appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello,
If you can play the mpeg why don't you demux it? Tmpgenc dvd author can read the sepearte video/audio files. You could load the two and then design the layout.

Another option would be to demux and then remux them.

Hi. I have tried using TMPGEnc DVD Author (not quite sure what demuxing is). Heres what I did:

    1. Open TMPGEnc DVD Author
    2. Add Mpeg File
    3. created basic menu
    4. Went straight to output and started the process (it took me 12-13 minutes)

    Result = a Volume Folder, entire contents = 159mb

    Did I miss anything?

P.S. My Mpeg file is 759mb

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hello,
Demuxing is splitting the mpeg into it's audio and video parts. In tmpgenc (regular not author) go to File-mpeg tools - demultiplex. Then open the mpeg and click on the video- save it. Click on audio - save it.

Load tda and add files. You can add the .m1v and .mp1 audio files sepeartely. That might help.

    Hi again, no luck.

Video stream after demultiplex = 100mb
Audio stream after demultiplex = 19.4mb

    The Mpeg is 1hr 32mins

EDIT: Demultiplex only got as far as 12mins 9secs video & same for audio.

    Anything else I can do?

    Thank you.

    Hello,
You might have bad frames. You could try out virtualdub-mpeg2. Load the file and run "check for bad frames" (can't remember were it is). That might give you more info to go on. Good luck.

Hi. I done the "scan video stream for errors". Results were:

Only reads to 44mins 21secs (full mpeg is 1hr 32mins) but completes.
    Frame 79770 (0:44:21.659) [P]
0 frames masked (0 frames bad, 0 frames good but undecodable)

checked frames 0-79771 (79771 = 44 mins of 1 hr 32mins into mpeg). Virtualdub-Mpeg2 stops as if it has completed checking the whole mpeg.

Is there anything I can do at all to recover the whole mpeg. As I said; "it plays fully on my PC". The whole 1hr 32mins. I'm at a total loss as to whats hapenning.

Seems like I can only load 44mins into Virtualdub-Mpeg2 when in fact the whole mpeg (when weatched on my PC) is 1 hr 32mins.

P.S. If windows media player can play the whole file in its entirety, surely I can repair. Is that right or am I just dreaming?

    Thank you.

OK this is what I do when confronted with a stubborn file (usualy the AUDIO). Demux if possible, if not use AUDACITY direct.

Extract the audio to a .wav with AUDACITY (freeware)..it may take a while but it works...then RESAVE it as a .wav using your required bitrate..(check the file with a media player to confirm its length in time is the same as the video).

Convert the new .wav to your required format with you fave AUDIO encoder.

You do understand that a VCD uses 44100hz audio rate and a DVD uses 48000hz.

    Thanks Monzie.

What do I do with the video? (I'm a little new to this but good learner).

The Video will only run to 40+ mins when the entire mpeg is 1 hour 32 mins.

    Thank you for your reply.
