  1. Office Depot made a big blunder in this weeks ad

They list the Maxtor external 250gb drive for $230, but if you look close they also list the 160gb and 80gb drives too. (online it's page 2 of the instore ad) click on it and it will list the 80gb drive for $130 and it lists the 160gb for $100

Printed the online ad and went down there. The online ad and the circular are wrong. The 160gb drive number is actually for an internal model. I asked them to honor the ad as that was why I drove down for. I also said the online ad matched the circular so I think it should be honored.

If you're in the market for an external USB2/firewire drive, run don't walk

    This deal can't be beat

This is not a regional or state deal. I checked a couple of cities and the ads are all the same

BTW, make sure you get the USB/Firewire model. They didn't have that one in stock so I ended up with just the USB2 model. Still a smoking deal

And next week they'll be $220 to make up for getting ripped off this week. Glad you got in on a good deal though. Now if you ordered the external case you were looking at, you can still make it USB/Firewire.

why would I want to take the drive out of it's case and put it in another?
If I get a new enclosure, I'll put one of my spare drives in it. I do however HAVE to get a USB2/firewire card.

USB 1.1 is something like a meg a sec 60mb/minute.
I'm transfering 41gb should be down in 2 weeks

If the 160 is the biggest of the drives, it should go in the better case. Save the 60 or 80 drives for the USB2 case.

That's a good deal for a 160 gb external. Costco has the maxtor 160 gb internal drive for $109.00 that comes with a ata133 pci controller card.
I knew I should've bought another 200gb maxtor internal hard drive back in late June from CompUsa, it was $104.00 after taxes and mail in rebates. With my luck if I went down to the local Office Depot they would have caught the problem with the ad and tell me no can do! Anyways we're one week behind in sale ads. What the 48 other states have on sale this week, we get it the following week.

  6. I forgot to add. This price is without rebates! If they had more (the guy said I got the only one they had) I would of sent my wife in to get another.

I see your point tekkieman, but i don't know if I want to screw up the warrenty. The aluminum case gets kinda hot, so maybe it will break down before the warranty expires? Also by then, they might have a newer version to replace it with?

I actually work for Office Depot now. I decided to ask the manager about it. Ours has the price at $99.99 plus there is a $30 rebate, plus I would get the employee discount......but I didn't need one, so I passed on it.

The price in the computer is the same as the price in the ad, so at our store that is the price of the drive.....$20 less than the 80Gb

  9. I went to OD this afternoon with the ad. The OD lady checked the code number and pointed to the internal 160Gb. I ended up with the one from Fry's.

but the scew number matches the internal 160gb drive, not the external....plus, there were no rebates, which was great.

If you try to follow the link on the website to this specific 160gb external drive, it actually links to the internal model. I noticed this right before I drove down there. If it would of linked to the external model, I would of bought a couple more FOR SURE!

  11. CC has a 120 gig WD for $40 ARs. You could price match Frys & in that case it would be free. Just add a nice external case....

What do you mean price match at Frys and get it for free?

I'm heading to Frys later today to pickup a USB/firewire card and maybe that goVideo DVD recorder.

I have a $100 gift certificate buring a hole in my wallet

  14. stiltman, if you have a Frys near Circuit City you can ask CC to price match Frys on that Wd 120 gig HD. They may say no.
