  1. I wanted to fit a 94 minute movie on a 80 minute CD. I ran the bitrate calculator and it gave me an avg bit rate of 989kps when lowered the audio bit rate to 160. I used TMPGEnc's 2-pass VBR with min=250, avg=975 max=1300.

Can I somehow reduce the resulting file so that it'll fit on an 80 min CD or do I have to re-encode?

I feel stupid putting 1300 for the max bitrate. I wouldn't have thought "The Wedding Singer" would need that high a bitrate.

  2. I'm afraid you'll need to re-encode the file - I don't think there is a program like DVD Shrink for MPEG-1 files.

  3. Its the AVERAGE bitrate that determines file size for vbr, so your calculations are probably correct. I am guessing that in the "System" tab of TMPGEnc you have VideoCD selected. You need to set VideoCD(non-Standard), else TMPGEnc will pad out the bitrate to make it standard.

IF YOU HAVE THIS SET ALREADY IGNORE ME !!

As stated above, you will need to re-encode. The settings should be OK (including max bitrate).

    Good Luck

  4. actually how big is the xvcd that u created? because in vcd mode writing (i think mode2) u can fit approx. 795mb on a 700mb disc due to the smaller amount of error correction compared to data discs

The only two things i can think of reducing the file are:

    1. lower the audio bitrate (which i don't think will reduce the file that much)

    2. cut off the credits at the end.

    Hope this helps.

You are correct. I forgot to set the VCD to non-standard.

My ending file size was 930MB; needless to say, that just isn't going to fit on an 80 min CDR.

    1. When I ran some tests and at 128 kps, the audio just didn't sync with the video so I ran with 160kps.

    2. I had already cut off the ending credits before I began encoding.

    re-encode.
    If in doubt, Google it.
