  1. I'm having trouble converting to mpeg2 for SVCD. When try and play back the .mpg file using XINGMPEG player I get no picture and audio with loud squeaks in it. And if I burn it as an SVCD using Nero 5.5 My DVD player just plays it as an audio CD and I get nothing. My DVD player is a Pioneer DV5-515 which is SVCD compliant. I also have PowerDVD on my computer which wont recognise the disc either. Anyone with any idea about what I'm doing wrong some help would be more than welcome.

    Thanks.

  3. Yes I've loaded up the PAL SVCD template and the avi has been captured at 720x540 PAL resolution with no dropped frames.

As far as PowerDVD concerns. It's not SVCD compliant. It can just play VCD's.

You should use WinDVD or some other Software player to test SVCD's on your computer instead.

  5. I think there's some problem in the conversion from avi to mpeg-2 because if I try to play the file before I burn it as an SVCD it doesn't work.

the Xing mpeg player doesn't support Mpeg2 playback. You have to have mpeg2 decoder software installed (dvd player, ligos mpeg2 splitter) and use Windows media player, or your dvd player app.

  7. I downloaded ligos Mpeg player and it plays my Mpeg-2 files perfectly so the problem is either in the burning of the VCD or my DVD player isn't SVCD compliant. I have a Pioneer DV-515 which is SVCD compliant according to the compatibility list and others, and I have a toshiba 1250 which I don't think is availible in the US so it's not on any list. I'm using NERO 5.5 to burn the SCVCD and I've tried changing the compatibility settings and that didn't work either. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.

    thanks
