Creating true widescreen video?

Hi guys and gals,

Ok, I have an avi file which has a resolution of 576x260 pixels for an aspect ratio of 2.21:1

I use TMPGEnc 3.0 Express for all my conversions to DVD but I want to know how would I convert this avi into a DVD true widescreen video?

I just bought a Sony 46 inch HDTV projector (model KP-46WT510) and I want to convert this avi into a DVD but maintaining the widescreen format.

How would I go about this in TMPGEnc 3.0? Thanks for any help on getting me started.

I have encoded a superpanavision video (2.11:1) with no problems with TMPGEnc+. The setting is in the aspect ratio selector. I don't remember any problems and it displays OK on my projection setup. (Hope this post doesn't double, problems with my browser.)

For my avi, I setup TMPGEnc 3.0 using an MPEG Template and set the resolution to 720x368 and yes, I chose 16:9 as the output's aspect ratio. Whould this do the trick? I am encoding it as I type this, so I don't know yet if it will work correctly.

Will it fill up the screen completely on my widescreen tv? And if played on a full screen tv, will the dvd player add the top/bottom black bars to it?

well, when i did that, what i tried was getting rid of the bars in the settings (forget what its called, the 3rd one down), but i dont know, seeing as i never had time to keep my computer on for hours and hours to finish it, but, i dont know, that was my guess

errr...... acording to my calculator 852 / 2.21 = 385 vertical (call it 384 as divisble by 16) so you should have 48 borders T & B if on NTSC when encoding with the 16:9 flag.

If PAL it should be 464 (463 true) vertical with 56 T & B borders.

If you dont require any borders then you need to trim some of the horizontal to achieve an aspect ratio of 16:9 (1.77:1 ) with your avi.....when encoding with.............wait for it..........the 16:9 flag............
