I'm sorry, and maybe it's becaue I'm new, but how exactly does providing me with a link to the Tmobile Forum (where I've been many times, as well as called them, and HTC) , and a generic one at that, help me in any way, shape, or form?
Did you read my post? -
I'll admit I won't really be of much help, but generally, it's not a good idea to post your private email address and phone number to a public forum. Spammers, telemarketers or worse might be lurking.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
I've read your post, the HTC phone is not really up our alley here, most users on this board are pc, mac, or linux users, mainly using anything from webcams, capture cards and on up to hi-end post production video equipment, usually with the goal of producing DVD or BD disks. Shooting video with your phone is obviously something it's capable of but not something this board can help you with. The link to the T-mobile forums wasn't meant as any kind of insult I'm sure, it is most likely the best place for you to find a solution to your questions. If HTC can't help, and the T-mobile forum can't help, I wouldn't even begin to know what to suggest, but I do wish you the best of luck with your problem, there is nothing more upsetting than having once in a lifetime videos that won't playback.

Thank you, that;s nice of you to say, BUT....isn't it just an MP4 file regardless, and the fact that it can't play on my desktop as much as it can't play on my phone, kind of the crux of the issue? The questions regarding MP4 size, and cache for video creation, etc... really would pertain to the file as a file and not the device?
Anyway, again, Thank you for what you've written, but as the forum is about video files, and there are such a large number of users creating videos on smart devices these days, it would seem to me that there would be a great many people utilizing, MP4's, creating videos on smart devices, and those who have experience and can recommend tools for editing, converting, etc.. as well as those who have experienced problems creating and/or playing these files genericly on multiple types of devices.
Anyone?????????? -
Emails can be filtered, or deleted, and phone calls can easily be hung up on. I'm not sure why the world has gotten so paranoid of giving out numbers, and emails. I think people watch WAAAY too much TV. There are ZERO amounts of information that someone can obtain bromf my email or phone number, except for regional info. I don;t care what someone tells you. You CANNOT (unless you are a gov't entity, or suboenae carrying leo).
People overuse teh word spam, wouldn;t McDonalds billboards or commercials be spam in that definition then? People have gotten silly, and WAYYYY too paranoid, and prissy. If you don;t like someone or something ...hang up... did we REALLY need more government oversight to tell us that. Come on people. And telemarketers are how we used to buy things when they called our homes 20 and 30 years ago. How many of your parents or grandparents used telemarketers for changing long distance, or insurance companies, etc... They were a value add, then the winey pissy american public who for some reason NEEDS to have people baby them rather than just hanging up, decided to give the government the ability to yet again...prevent commerce and business in this country. And we wonder why we are in the toilet economically, and the other countries laugh at us. Has anyone looked up how much commerce the US has lost as a result of the ridiculous do not call list? It's amazing, and beyond ridiculous. Time to grow up america, woipe our own noses and asses, and quit giving them more and more reasons to govern what we do, what we say, and how we do it. -
1) I would guess that filesize is likely limited by fat32 file system since you are using SD card (~4GB)
I'm not sure about the cache, but it's probably negligible, because I'm guessing writes are near instantaneous with no delay to the storage , either internal or external media
2) if all the "bad" videos don't have audio, why don't you test muxing in an audio track to test your theory? you could use mp4box (yamb is a gui for it) , or mp4muxer, or avidemux
gspot or avinaptic may provide more information, e.g. gspot can tell you a bit more info on the GOP (e.g. some devices need a set length for I-interval , or something similar)
a stream analyzer like elecard streameye (not free) will show you the actual frametype of each frame, and may be helpful if there is a pattern
Have you looked at the forum link? for other users with this device? -

Your device is creating files that neither your device or your pc can playback, that leads me to believe it's device related. Also, not all MP4's are equal, depends on the codec being used to encode the file.

Maybe there are a great many people utilizing videos on smart devices, but those of us with experience in creating, capturing, editing, encoding, muxing, demuxing, converting, can't help if the device is creating unusable files. Beauty into the machine, blenderize, shake, stir, garbage out of the machine, there is no software for fixing that. A phone would be my last choice for shooting video. Most so called smart phones today are aimed at Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Music, Texting, Gps, Voice calls, Video and tons of other things, with so much capability comes much compromise. I'm amazed that todays so called smart phones can even make a decent phone call, well in fact, many still can't.
I would copy a non working video file to my pc, run it thru a converting program i.e. MP4Cam2Avi and try to convert to a different format, say avi with no compression, see if it's still not viewable.Last edited by sum_guy; 3rd May 2010 at 20:02.

Have you tried using a different SD card? Your card could be corrupted, or worse, fake. It's not entirely likely, since a fake card would probably result in a completely garbage file (like with my camera), but you should test the possibility.
You should also read the HD2 forums to see if anyone else has the same problems.
