ok i bought these dvds that someone made on ebay. They are able to crap like 7-8 hours of video on one disc. How in the world is that done? i mean its seriously like over 15 episodes of this show and the quality is still pretty good.

I would like to learn how to do that. I collect alot of tv shows and it wold help if i can put more onto one disc. Which brings me to another topic. ....

Is there any authoring software that doesnt take up over a gig just for the buttons and menu? I use a flat picture background, one video that is 200mb, and the sound, which all adds up to 1.5 gig.

convert to low resolution dvds, 352x240/288 or 352x480/576 using low bitrate and you can store several hours / DVD. www.kvcd.net has some "kdvd" tmpgenc templates for this.

so basically 352x240 vcd mpegs are dvd compliant as long as the audion is 48hz right? So when these are played i will be able to use menus and buttons correct? or will it just act like a vcd.

    VCD is MPEG1 only.
    SVCD is MPEG2
DVD will play MPEG1 or MPEG2

Just make sure the audio sample rate is right.

Okay, Im new to this! I recently made a DVD with 6 and 1/2 hours of shows on it. These are tv captured in 340/280(I think). They are Mpg with 48hz audio. The DVD has a menu, and sub menu. I used Tmpgdvdauthor to make it. Queality is great! Equal to a VCD. Which is all I had before, so Im very happy.

On a side not: Today I noticed on Tmpeg of the DVD low resolution conversion option. With MP2 it says it can hold 495 minutes of video... Is this better queality then VCD? Or not... ?

No it is VCD quality video. Max available bitrate on a DVD is something like 10080kbps combined video & audio so figure about eight and a quarter hours of MPEG1 @ 1150kbps with really crappy 64kbps audio, or you can bump audio bitrate up to 128kbps (CD quality) and you can get just under 8 hours on a DVD.
