wondering if anyone had this machine and knows if it has a fan in it or not. Seems every time I use it for 2-3 hours at a time it starts to malfunction eg. freezing, skipping, etc. I'm assuming it's because it is overheating.

I have a LVD 2001. I noticed that it plays cds perfectly all day long ie Divx movies.

When you play dvd-r then after say 2hours it starts to skip. If you then wait for it to cool down and play the same same section of the disk that started to skip it plays through OK.

I was thinking of fitting a fan in the back just a tiny one because the machine over the dvd reader does seem hot compared to other dvd readers plus the dvd disk itself is warmer than you would expext . DVD`s do run warmer because of the diferent spec of the lazer.

My 2002 also can freeze up or skip after it's been on for extended periods of time. There are no fans or vent holes to keep it cooler, and if you stack other components on top or keep it in an enclosed cabinet, it will run even hotter.

I just turn it off and unplug it for a while when this starts to happen. I don't really want to have to start drilling holes in it for ventilation, as this will bring dust inside the cabinet and cause other problems with the laser.

  4. My place is usually warm and I noticed that mine gets quite hot. My DVD laser died recently so perhaps it died because of heat. Dunno for sure cause my cd laser still works. Hopefully the RMA process for a new unit will hook me up with a new laser without a problem as I just called them tonite.

As for the crashing, I flashed my unit as soon as I got it (to 3.02) and it plays 95% of the discs I throw at it, but crashes every once in a while. I just put a switch on the plug ($3 at walmart) to do a hard shutdown and reboot when this happens. A small price to pay for the greatness of this little player.

  5. Mine does that also, but I can't figure out that if its the disc or the player. I had a movie that was on -R and it started freezing right below the 2 hour mark. Switched to an -RW version and it played fine. Wierd
