  1. I use dvd shrink a bit and usually use Nero6 to burn an .nrg file to play with daemon tools. I found that some movies don't finish properly. I also read that perhaps this has to do with windows handling a file size larger than 4 gig.!?? So now i just made an .nrg and it is a little over 4 gig so Nero creates a seconday file. This .nrg won't play properly. Can any one tell me what i have to do to fix this? I use winXPpro, fat32.

Its because you have FAT32 instead of NTFS.
Why would you use FAT32 since you have Pro version?

To change from FAT 32 to NTFS file system for more stability, security and less fragmentation, open the command prompt and type:

    Convert C: /FS:NTFS

"C" being the drive you wish to convert. Make sure there is a space between the C: and the foward slash (/). Once you press enter it will ask you for confirmation and press Y. Then press Y and enter once more to reboot..

here's a guide from microsoft on FAT 32 to NTFS:

I don't see anything wrong by using FAT 32 for XP PRO or WIN2000 PRO. I use FAT 32 on my "C" drive that has WINDOWS 2000 PRO but my other drives are NTFS.

  4. Well - up until all the machines on our home network were xp it was for uniformity i guess. But due to the regularity of having to rescue data from defunct drives - ntfs is very dificult to rescue from, or at least more so than from the ease of fat32. So i take it there is no solution except to convert? (which i would prefer not to do) P.S. Thanx for the replies.

  5. Fat32 cannot handle more than a 4 gig file, period. There's no way around it because it just can't do it. You need to convert to NTFS or just not worry about the limitation.

  7. Hi all.

Razzle, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but DVD Shrink v3.2 will automatically "split" its ISO output when used on FAT32 systems.
Added automatic support for splitting ISO files if they are saved to a FAT32 partition. In this case a .MDS file is also output which can be burned with DVD Decrypter and mounted by Daemon Tools. MDS files can additionally be opened with DVD Shrink from the "Open Disc Image..." menu.

  8. You can also use Img Tool Classic to create a split iso file from the vobs. DVD Decrypter will burn it too.

Again, this isn't ISO at all, but rather MDS+Split which is completely different.

  11. Gurm, I'm no expert and have simply used others' (including dvdshrink) terminology.
As long as it solves Razzle's problem, does it really matter?

  12. Thanx for the linux tip - i'll have a look at it. I think maybe i will convert one drive.
As for the split ISO, yes i am aware that dvsshrink does this but the players software doesn't like this when you mount the ISO on a virtual drive. It stops at the split. i thought at first my files were incomplete, but thankfully they were ok.
    Thanx for all the replies.
