Advanced Menu tips/ ideas

I am working on several menus and was wondering if there are any tips or ideas for something unique like an animated cursor, motion menu only when object is highlighted, different sounds for link highlight, also can I trigger an action without pressing enter (for example when object highlighted background changes, I think this would be cool for show descriptions, without pressing enter and going to a seperate menu), I don't know if these things are even possible, I use DVD-Lab for almost all my authoring, but am open to other suggestions, thanks
