  1. I recently upgraded my copy of WinDVD to 6, but for some reason it decided to crash my computer anytime it got 5 seconds into loading the program. Not really "needing" the upgrade, I pulled out my WinDVD 5 files and re-installed that. Ever since, DVD movies (in VIDEO_TS format, either on the disc or ripped to my drive) are playing the video completely pink. The audio and chapters come through great, though. To test, I loaded up the same files in TMPGEnc DVD Author and the video was fine, but in WinDVD it won't come through correctly.

  2. Could be an overlay driver issue. Easiest fix is to use
System Restore and go back to a time point before
    loading WinDVD.

  3. I wish I could... The only points I have available are from the last couple days, none of which cover a time previous to WinDVD6 being installed... Would trying to get v. 6 working help/solve the problem?

  4. Maybe. I suspect your direct show mpeg2 codec and or overlay drivers
have been damaged. One or more of the following things should
help by itself or in sequence with the other actions.

    1. Uninstall winDVD and upgrade/reinstall your video card drivers
    2. Install working demo of PowerDVD
    3. Install mpeg2 codec
    4. Install or upgade to another copy of msplayer.

  5. I'll try that and post back soon, but to clarify: Why install PowerDVD over WinDVD? Is there a difference in the codecs or are you silently trying to convert me to PowerDVD? Also, by "msplayer" I assume you mean Windows Media Player?

    yes
uninstall WinDVD 1st, do not install PowerDVD on top of WinDVD

    Yes

  7. Since I already had a purchased copy of WinDVD, I didn't want to switch... After multiple attempts at your process, though, I caved and tried PowerDVD. After uninstalling everything, removing the codec and installing PowerDVD, everything's all nice and spiffy. Thanks for your help.
