    I'd need a command line or batch-oriented conversion utility to convert hundreds of small AVI and MPEG2 files to MPEG1 format. For example , a utility that can convert all video files in a directory would be awesome.

    try the mainconcept mpeg encoder demo
    it has a batch mode and it does mpeg1
