  1. I have read so much stuff on trying to fix this problem and I have been unsuccessful. Hopefully someone can help.

I have an avi xvid file. This file will play in a program called global divx player. However, it will not play in windows media player (it has a green screen and then it crashes windows media player).

It also will not run successfully in tmpgenc or cucusoft avi to dvd.

I have put the file into gspot and avicodec..i don't see the problem.

i have installed ffdshow and 3ivx as an attempt to remedy the problem. xvid was installed recently.

gspot says that the following codecs should be able to play it:

    video
    xvid mpeg4 codec
    xvid mpeg4 decoder
    3ivx dv video decoder

    audio
    creative mp3 codec
fraunhaufer IIS mpeg level 3 codec
    ffdshow audio decoder
    moonlight odio dekoda
    mpeg layer 3 decoder

i recently deleted all other codecs that i could find on my computer in the start menu or recognizably found in the file folders

i deleted global divx player in case it had other codecs installed within it or something (getting desperate for solutions)

i'm not sure if i'm using ffdshow correctly, it's installed, along with xvid, but i haven't done anything to change the configurations, could that be the problem? a lot of forums suggest using this program but don't tell you how to use it. (the same with codecs, i assume you just leave them alone and they allow you to play within windows media player)

i'm using windows media player 9, and someone suggested going into the start menu, clicking on run and typing "mplayer 2", they suggested that i look for the xvid codec and uncheck it.....however, no codecs come up in mplayer two's advanced screen.

i dunno...i'm stuck, willing to try anything, i just need a comprehensive way to fix this problem...a lot of people say stuff like....."try such and such program or codec" and leave it like that.

  2. Well it could be codec conflicts, since it seems you have quite a few on there. But I wouldn't rule out bad frames either. Check it in Vdub, or another program.
    Blah, blah, blah

  3. i'm not familiar with vdub, however, i installed it and opened up the file, it plays perfectly in vdub. does that help to troubleshoot what the problem might be???

if it is a conflict problem, how do i fix that?

i don't even know where i'd find these codecs on my computer.

    any other suggestions.
