pc freezes when burning a svcd why??

i have windows media 9 and nero 6 with a brand new lite-on cd-rw i have managed to sucessfully burn a 3 minute svcd that i have made on my digital camcorder but whenever i try to make anything longer than 3/4 mins my pc jus freezes an i have to reset rendering my svcd unfinished etc
i have a 1000 meg cpu with 512 ram pentium 3
it also freezes sometimes when playin games can anyone direct me towards a solution please

It could be a couple of issues. If games are affected it could be a directx or ram issue. For directx issues look it up on www.microsft.com. Also here are some computer sites that might help for ram issues: www.computing.net, www.slashdot.net, www.cnet.com, www.zdnet.com. There are many others, these are just some I've used.

If you have norton systemworks you could run windoctor and see if it finds any errors. Disk check is another option.

P.S. If you find more symptoms that might help lead to the problem. Errors are sometimes hard to pinpoint.

Your CPU may be overheating. Open the case and clean all the dust out of your CPU's heat sink. Make sure the CPU fan and all case fans (including the one in the power supply) are still working.

Try running a CPU temperature monitoring utility like Motherboard Monitor:
