I just tried to back up my new DVD. I ran it through mac the ripper and chose the movie only mode. I went and checked how big the file was when it was done and it was 4.75g so I ran it through DVD2one and created a Video_ts folder. I then made an empty Audio_ts folder put these in toast under data DVD like I always do. I hit the record put my disc in and I noticed under the Audio_TS folder 2 little files popped up. They were about 2k in size. Never seen them before. Didn't think anything of it. When the disc was done burning I put it in my DVD player the same DVD player I always have used and it came up with a menu to choose either the audio_ts folder or the video_ts folder. This has never happened before. When I went to the video_ts folder it had the movie there in about 4 files that I could choose from. Normally the movie will just start playing. That is how I like it. The only thing different is I ran it through Mac the Ripper. The last time I backed up a DVD was a while ago and I was using DVD backup. I want just the movie to play when I put it in my player. Should I go back to DVD backup or will mac the ripper allow me to so this.

Those two little files do mess things up. Toast 6.0.7 eliminates this from happening and also has an easier way to set up to burn VIDEO_TS folders.

I didn't have the problem before. Are you suggesting that I can't fix it without an update? Is that going to cost me extra $$$? So my process with mac the ripper is OK?

Yes we are suggesting an update will fix.
( Always keep Toast updated, as Roxio
tends to keep things evenly paced with
other things in the world, say like
    Major Apple system updates and
    hardware releases).
If you own ( by that I mean legally) Toast 6.0.0,
then any of the updates released are FREE,
provided you have signed up and registered
your VALID SERIAL NUMBER over at roxio.com.

I can also vouch...I have everything current
and have no problems with the two files you speak of.

As far as I know, using MTR in Movie Only mode does not create the necessary IFO and BUP files in order to make a standard DVD. Furthermore, it makes one giant VOB file...

You need to use MTR to rip the entire disc, THEN use DVD2OneX in Movie Only mode to get the results you seek.

  7. AntnyMD,
The latest Toast can author a DVD under the Video Tab using a VOB. It will build the structure and not re-encode the vob. What a handy tool.

So the process was wrong. So what is the movie only mode on Mac the ripper for. How do you use it.

Movie-only mode in MTR is sometimes finnicky. Typically, however, DVD2OneX will fix any wierdness, and make a functional DVD. MTR does make the .IFO and .BUP files, but sometimes, problems arise due to the way certain DVDs are mastered, and Movie Only mode might make unplayable output, especially if you don't disable menus (an option in the preferences). It's best to use Full Disc mode, and then choose 'film' with DVD2OneX to obtain the movie only.
However, the problem you describe seems more like a mastering error. Make sure you chose 'DVD-ROM (UDF)' format in the Data section of Toast. To verify the format in which you mastered your DVD, insert it into your Mac's DVD drive, select it in the Finder (like on your desktop), and choose 'Get Info' in the File menu (command-I). It should say UDF or Universal Disc Format, and not MacOS Extended. If it's not in UDF format, you'll have to burn it again in the proper format.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

I have some old VOBs burned to CD that were made by chopping up a DVD in random spots on a PC .. We'll see how well Toast's new feature works -- or if it works at all...
