Something chikanakan said in the "desktop db/df" thread got me wondering:
I've got some great VOB trailers that I want to put on a DVD. I can play them all using VLC, but I can't burn them all to DVD-R (Sizzle says at least one of them has an error, and Toast won't burn both NTSC and PAL VOBs). The error-free NTSC VOBs only take up about 4-5 minutes of video, leaving the bulk of the DVD empty.
My question is this: can I put the rest of the VOBs on the DVD-R just to store them? It seems that the guides I've followed to backup DVDs say that anything but VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, etc. folders will result in a DVD that won't play on most machines. Of course, commercial DVDs have plenty of executables and such, so I assume it must be possible. Is there a special way that these can be burned along with the standard folders?

they can be burned, but they wont be accessed on a standalone player. If you want them to be burned as data then any computer can play them with drag-drop onto the app of choice
instead of just dropping the vob's into toast or sizzle have you tried demuxing them and then inporting the audio/video components
just a thought -
Some players will play a mini dvd. (my cheap newer set-top plays it, but not my older pioneer)
(normally authored dvd where the video_ts and audio_ts folders are burned on cdr)
you would need to demux and then build the dvd, then burn it as a DVD-ROM (UDF) on cd.
This way it is playable and you won't waste a dvdr.
just a thought.
