  1. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, it didn't really fit anywhere else so please move it if it needs it. I would like to take some snapshots from a movie I am going to capture on my DV camcorder. What software/what kind of quality should I expect to get from taking snapshots from DV footage? I would rather not have to take both the DV camcorder and my digital camera but would I be better off doing so?

On an entirely different note, does anyone have an answer to this?

  2. The best quality you will get from your camcorder is a 720x480 picture.
1 megapixel digital cameras would give you a much better picture.
Don't plan on printing off any quality photos with the ones off the camcorder.
Why not test out and see if the quality is good enough.
What software do you use with your camcorder now?

Some DV camcorders have a snapshot facility for taking stills to a memory card. These can be in excess of 1 megapixel. These are simple jpeg files, so pretty much anything can process them. Is it possible to get reasonale, although a little soft, 5x7 prints from these.

If your camera does not allow for this type of still, you will be much better off taking a still camera with you. The other advantage to taking stills with a still camera is that you don't have to worry about interlaing artifacts, which will be an issue for images lifted off the tape.
