  1. It have distubed me long time
im a eager snapshot taker when i use media player classic

thou as soon as i take the snapshot from a wmv-file at decired location
it plays back the video to previous key-frame (i suspect) when i hit the snap-button..within 5 sec it use to go back..and on the screenshot-output there Rachel Ryan will still have the bra on!
no mpg and avi dont have this problem

is it possible to take a accurate wmv snapshot in this world is the question?
in my opinion we can exclude what codecs the computer have installed affects this

  2. Frame accurate seeking is usually dependent on the splitter, decoder, renderer, and software player - so it might can a codec issue. Some allow proper navigation, some don't.

You can go forward frame-by-frame (not backwards) with MPC, but snapshots can only be taken using VMR9(renderless) or VMR7(renderless) and they may look faded. This is using WMV codecs installed with WMP11 (not ffdshow used to decode)

You can navigate properly fwd & backwards with vdub (you need wmv plugin, and if your source is wvc1, then you have to enable vc1 in the ffdshow vfw configuration). Screenshots are taken in full RGB and are more vibrant than using VMR9, for example. However vdub will not display anamorphic encodes or respect DAR flags. It will only display at full frame 1:1 pixel aspect ratio (which usually isn't a problem for most WMV)
