I have two Divx avi movie files that i downloaded sometime ago , and reasently tried them out on this DVD player . They worked fine but i noticed that the audio cuts out like the voices don't move with the mouths . I don't know if any one else has this problem with files on the Phillips dvp-642 , is there a reason for this and is there a way to correct this problem .
thanks

Anyone !
Oh yes the Divx file works well on my PC like the voice is in sync but only on Phillip dvp-642 DVD player the audio cuts out . -
If by 'cuts out' you mean 'goes out of sync', then you can usually fix this by momentarily pressing the Rewind key and then pressing Play.

I cannot do this trick as my the Phillips dvp-642 remote has no rewind button , so i am stuck .

Desynched audio is usually the result of 1 or 2 things. Either the encode (.avi or .mpg) itself is bad which happens infrequently or you left the player on PAUSE too long. I noticed that if I leave an .avi on pause for more than a few minutes, it will sometimes desynch. This is easy enough to fix with another pause and play or even rewinding a bit and hitting play again. As for your remote control not having a REWIND BUTTON, check the arrows
They aren't usually labeled any more because everyone knows which way is back, forward, etc...
I've noticed a lot of complaints from people about their divx or xvid stuff not working properly. Although I personally have never had a problem with over 400 movies in both formats, the player does have issues with bad encodes or obscure codecs. It's not designed to play codecs which came out after the player was built (XVID 1.0), but there are firmware upgrades available to enhance the divx and xvid capabilities of the DVP 642.
It's important to note that some DIVX codecs were crap to begin with and any movies encoded with these will surely have problems no matter what.
I would suggest using only formats supported like DIVX 3.11, 4.12 or 5.1 and avoid using 5.0 which was seriously flawed. I haven't had any problems at all playing XVID encodes up to 1.0 I'm still waiting for verification from someone who has firmwared their DVP 642-17 and got it to play XVID 1.0 encodes.
Hope some of this helped.

where is the rewind button located , is it located ubove the stop and pause button . If so i tried this and still did not work , as all it does is go back to the begining and the audio is still the same .
