    Hello,
I read a post that suggested half d1 (352x240 ntsc) and 3500 bitrate for 3-4 hours of dvd video. I can give you the post if you want. I haven't tried it myself but you could test it.

Also, the 2000 spec I think is for svcd. Programs might not recognize it.

To get 3 hours on a disk the video bitrate should be 3100, to get 4 hours 2300. You better use 1/2 DVD res at those rates...352x480 NTSC, 352x576 PAL.

I record a couple of TV shows and go with 4 hours on a DVD, and my standard settings are 352x480 frame size, 2410/500/9668 (avg/min/max) VBR and 128k for audio.

sacajaweeda, I though your audio had to be 224 min and your audio could drop below, something like, 1800, 2000 or so for DVD.

btw... I miss your old avatar

224 audio bitrate is required for VCD but the DVD spec is pretty much wide open as long as the sample rate is 44k. My minimum bitrate (VBR) for video is usually 2000 for stuff I might share with other people, but for mundane crap like TV shows I record, the only players I really care if it plays on are my own, so I go with 500. To be honest though, I haven't had any problems with those discs in any of the players I've ever tried them in.

Agree on the avatar....I don't like this one much either so I'm gonna switch it back
