  1. good morning everyone. i have
    a pioneer dvr 510hs recorder
    that i've been using since
april 2004. i was able to record to the hard drive from my tv, camcorder and vhs tapes. i could not copy from the hard drive to dvd. this was a program i recorded from my camcorder to the hard drive - it was not copyrighted, it was a home movie.
after talking with many techs at pioneer it was decided i was following their instructions and i was to return it for repairs.

when i called to see what was wrong with it they said they could not duplicate my problem, but they did do a hard drive upgrade.

so i get it back yesterday and i still cannot copy from hard drive to dvd, and now i can't even record from my tv to the hard drive.

the tech i spoke with this morning was advising me to hook up the recorder directly to the satellite receiver to see if it's a problem with the receiver.

am i missing something here? i'm not that technically savvy that i can run all these diagnostic tests they want me to do. the way it was left was i was advised to file a complaint with pioneer. but, tell me, how does that fix my problem? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is it just this one program that would not copy to DVD? Were you ever able to do it, with any hard drive recordings? Can you record directly to DVD-R or DVD-RW (without recording on the hard drive)?
How do you have it hooked up now? Can you view the program that you want to record THROUGH the output of the 510? Does the unit just not respond?
If you are having enough problems with it, perhaps you can get a replacement. However, Pioneer's folks are probably going to want you to document the problems before they offer you one.

  3. i have had to return the pioneer dvr 510 once again . when it was returned to me on wed 8/18 i was still having that initial problem. i could see the program on the hard drive and following their instructions for one touch copy it still did not work. i could record to a dvd from other sources but could not transfer from hdd to dvd. when i would try to see how much space was left on the dvd i would get a message that there were 2 hours left (fine play) but when i would try to record on it i got a message that said there was no room on the disc. i am using the dvd-rw disks.

surprise, surprise, more problems cropped up. now i cannot even record to hdd or dvd from any source. in addition i could not even view pre-recorded dvds on the pioneer. i had a movie i bought and it just would not play on the pioneer 510HS. i was able to view it on my $49 apex dvd player. so right now it's on it's way back to pioneer in long beach. sure hope they can solve it. in the letter i included i wrote that if they cannot repair it properly i would like it to be replaced with a new one. let's see what happens.

thanks for your help and information.
