Hey everyone
I am trying to convert a video file (avi) to a dvd, so i may watch it on my tv.
The problem i have is encoders
The programs i am using to do this are:
- DVD2SVCD
- TMPGEnc ( but a while back i used up my trial version, so this will not work for the encoding part, i was playing around to see what it could do, stupid me) so then i changed to another encoder.
- Cinema Craft Encoder ( will only encode about 2%, then it will start over)
Does anyone know of another encoder or is there another whole process for the conversion that i may try.
P.S.
Thanks to everyone in advance for the help.

I am pretty sure it is DivX, but i am at work, so i verify tonight.
If this helps, it is an extra codec that windows media player needed.
it is DivX
thanks for the quick reply

Supposedly you can get the freeware encoder QuEnc to work with DVD2SVCD by putting QSimV1 in the QuEnc folder and in the TMPGEnc path (in DVD2SVCD) enter the QSimV1.exe. Look for QSimV1 on the DVD2SVCD page. But I haven't tried it yet. Perhaps it won't be too long before DVD2SVCD integrates QuEnc without a workaround.
Your other free options are bbmpeg (very slow) or see if you can locate the last freeware version of TMPGEnc, ver.12a. Or buy Cinema Craft Encoder Basic. Have you gotten EclCCE.exe? Google for it if not. It's necessary if you have the trial version of CCE. Put it in the CCE folder, run EclCCE.exe, point it to the CCE executable, and point DVD2SVCD to Ecl.CCE.exe. Good luck.
P.S. The Film Machine has a QuEnc option, but it's buggy. Perhaps the developer will fix it soon. Then again, it may work okay for you.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Well Fritzi93 pretty much summed up my thoughts except for one. Have you tried checking the file to make sure it isnt damaged? I would try DIVFix on it and see what you get. I was trying to convert a video a while back and the problem was the file itself. I thought it was a problem with AVISynth...dopey me...

I will check tonight to see if the video has any errors or problems.
I will have to read what fritzi said a couple of times, cause i kinda got confused ( but i appreciate the advice )
Thanks guys or gals
i would like to purchase the encoders but this is only the second time i have ever used it, and i don't think i will be using it again in the future, So i can't see the upside to paying.
I will google for the EclCCE.exe, cause i have the trial version of CCE -
The Quenc transcoder can be pretty good. Especially since it is free! ( Thanks Nic!) You might want to play around with that one until you feel the need for something a little beefier. Then I would get a copy of CCE. This little guy goes hand in hand with DVD ReBuilder, a VERY excellent program for high quality backups of DVDs.

Ooh! Ooh! Why don't you just feed QuEnc an Avisynth script? Before you get all bent, let me anticipate the ensuing exchange, to get it out of the way.
Auctor: What are you, some kinda friggin' comedian? If I knew how to do that, I wouldn't have asked the original question!
Lector: Silly boy, you already have an appropriate AVS script, DVD2SVCD was kind enough to make one for you. It's in Program Files/DVD2SVCD/Movie or whatever you specified as your default output folder.
Auctor:So I just use that as the input in QuEnc? 8)
Lector: Not quite, you'll have to edit it.
Auctor: Shit
Lector: No, it's too easy. Navigate to it, click on it, and it'll come up in Notepad. Type in a new line at the bottom, EXACTLY like this:
ConvertToYV12()
Then save the new AVS file. Quenc will work with that.
Auctor: It'll work?
Lector: Yeah, I just did one to make sure, but I knew it would. 2-pass VBR in 2 hours, 10 minutes for a 2 hour, 18 minute XviD. Not bad quality, not as good as CCE or TMPGEnc, but hey, whaddaya want for free? Probably would be better using Trellis Quant, but that's significantly slower. I just did a test.
You should also still have the MP2 or AC3 that DVD2SVCD made for you. Use the m2v that QuEnc made and the encoded audio in your authoring program. Rejig will do it, it's free too.
Good Luck.Pull! Bang! Darn!
