    Hi

I am attempting to re-use a RITEK DVD-RW disk. I have erased it and done a quick reformat with Dvdinfopro. It tells me it has 4.38GB (4.71GB) free. However when I attempt to burn a DVD (which is well under the maximum of a DVD-R) with Nero 6 - it tell me there is insufficient space on the disk. I reformatted the disk but to no avail.

Currently I'm writing the DVD to a standard DVD-R without issue.

Is there anything else I can do to make Nero recognise the disk as empty?

  2. Does it work with a new (blank) disc? Other brands?
I believe, although check into this further, that when a RW is reformatted that error checking also occurs in the process. Areas of the disc that fail this error check are deemed 'bad' and not used again. Perhaps try and reformat the disc with a different utility? Also, try burning as much as you can to the disc and run it through a Nero Scandisc or Kprobe scan to see if there are any problems. If you've never used Ritek RWs with your burner before, check compatibility.

    Best of Luck,

A similar thing happened to me with a Ritek -RW or +RW. I believe a full erase with Nero fixed it. Also, try a program that automatically burns over like DVD Shrink. That helped too I think.

You do understand that 4.37GB's(4482MB's) is the maximum you can burn. The 4.7 number is not valid for DVD burning.
