A player that is SOLD as region-free that's cheap? No. Specifically BECAUSE it's region free, it HAS TO BE expensive - they've paid 5 times the licensing fees in order to sell it that way.
However, if you look in the DVD Hacks over on the left, you'll find many players which can be MADE region free with a few esoteric remote inputs.

Hello,
Make sure it plays PAL discs too. Otherwise you'll have the headache of converting PAL to NTSC.
Kevin
P.S. You can also play it on your dvd-rom (you get 4 region changes or look for a regionfree hack for your dvd-romDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Hey guys,
You didn't answer my first question.Region 2 to region 1
and then can I copy it?"If Life is a bowl of cherries, what am I doing in the pitts" -
What do intend to copy it to ?
If you rip it into a computer it will be ALL region. -
Thanks Foo,
I want to burn it to a blank dvd or to my hard drive,I don't really care which.
Did you say that if I burn it to my hard drive,it will become region free?Does that mean I can use any program to transfer it to a blank dvd?
Thanks"If Life is a bowl of cherries, what am I doing in the pitts" -
I'm not aware of a program to burn files to a Hard drive.
Probably not a good idea anyway.
DVDdecrypter will decrypt and transfer a DVD to your hard drive
and it will be region free. You can then burn to a DVD.
Any program will not work. I know for a fact that
MS Word for example will not burn DVDs. You might consider
a Burning program. -
@Gurm, here in the UK quite a few local stores and shops now advertise region free players at under £50 or even less
I bet they ain't paid any fees -
Don't know about PAL, but here's 'Region Free' for $20.

$10 manufacturer mail in rebate with purchase of a Yamakawa DVD-238 through September 30th, 2004
$8 mail in rebate when you purchase a Yamakawa DVD-238 with the purchase of $500 from eCOST.com on a single invoice. June 10th - August 20th, 2004
$7 eCOST.com mail in rebate when you purchase a Yamakawa DVD-238 from June 10th, 2004 - August 20th, 2004. Rebate available only from eCost.com !but it's still cheap even without the rebates anyway
-
Yeah, I think I'd miss out on that $8 rebate. Not gonna buy $500 worth of stuff to save $8 on a $45 DVD player. :P But as you said, even without any of the rebates it's still cheap.
