  1. Will PC read Panny E50 DVD-RAM?
if so what dvd drive do i need?

  2. The E-50 doesn't record to DVD-RW, it does record to DVD-R and DVD-RAM. To read or play DVD-R on a computer all you need is any DVD drive to read DVD-RAM you will need a DVD drive that also reads DVD-RAM.

Might surprise you but panasonic makes computer DVD-RAM drives too.

That model reads carts. Also, computer ones require a DVD-RAM driver to be put on & your unit comes with that.

  6. Does the Panasonic E50 DVD-RAM record the video to a standard DVD format when a DVD-Ram is used?

Toshiba SD-M1502 and up can read DVD-Ram.

    DVD-ROM drives that read DVD-RAM:

    LG GRD-8162B
Toshiba SD-M1712 (not the new SD-M1802, they've removed DVD-RAM support from this one)
    Samsung SD-816B

Many ioMega and Hitachi (same mechanism) dvd-writers are able to read and write dvd-ram, maybe readers too.

No, it's different than the standard DVD-video format. The file format is .VRO instead of VOB and there's only one big one instead of the standard 1 GB VOB file size limit. Won't play in a standard DVD player.

Yeah, but there are tons of posts here on how to get them to convert to a regular dvd format.

Dvd-r are cheap now, so no reason to really use dvdram if you want to edit it later on the pc.

I have a lf-d521 & it takes carts too, most dvdram writers wont take carts, so check that too. ebay.com should have plenty of dvdram writers.

I just ordered the LG GSA-4081BI from http://www.directron.com on sale for $84 with free shipping. From the site:

    Features: All Format Writing/Reading DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, CD-R, CD-RW. 2MB Buffer with Superlink Buffer Underrun Error Protection. Convenient E-IDE/ATAPI Plug and Play Interface. High speed Media Support. Maximum Write Speed: 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD-R, 4x DVD+RW, 2x DVD-RW, 3x DVD-RAM, 24x CD-R, 16x CD-RW. MPC-III Compliant.

Because I have a Panasonic E85 I wanted the DVD-RAM capability and the price seemed good. I read a review that was generally good. I should receive it by the end of the week. If you want to wait I'll post a review. My time is limited so it might be a few days after I receive it. Let me know.[/i][/b]

Nu Tech drives are also good options for reading DVD-RAM.
