A little while ago, my LG GSA-4040B stopped working properly, basically failing to burn anything (apparently, the burning head/laser carked it). Being that I'd had the drive for a mere three months, it was still under warranty, so I had it taken back to the retailer in order to get in touch with LG and sort out a warranty service. I expected problems.
Samsung's tactic of refusing to honor a warranty because I had flashed it to RPC-1 status? Nope.
Other manufacturers' tactics of dicking me around for months? Not a chance.
Two weeks later, not only is my drive replaced, it is replaced with a significantly better model. I now have a GSA-4120B, and I could not be happier. I was thinking about saving up for a DL burner so I could give the format a try. Now, I don't have to. All I need is some media and I am good to go.
Given that I have also updated to an LG DVD-Video player that didn't need to be modded in order to be made Region-Free, and plays +R discs without the mid-word pauses I was complaining of earlier, I will be buying a lot more LG stuff in the future. Sorry Toshiba, but with your attitude of telling consumers what they want instead of asking them, I'm not buying one of your products again.
LG own Toshiba (not in the literal sense).
