Here is my problem....has anyone else experienced this? I am Using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate -11.
I uploaded a video from JVC Digital camera to my computer. Cannot direct capture because I don't have firewire.

Video uploads in a MPG1 format.

When editing, all goes well and able to put my video in the timeline.

Video plays well.....UNTIL.....I stop it to cut/trim etc.

Then when I continue play.....time line continues to move, but the video freezes while the audio continues properly.

Pinnacle tech support says Update drivers on Nvidia 6800 (I did)....reload PInnacle (I did, pain in the butt), however no joy. Video still freezes.

Have had no difficulty editing MPG2 formatted videos, but this one has me frustrated.

I really don't want to buy a new computer.....my 3.6 Ghz 2 Gig of RAM is just fine for everything else.

    Any thoughts out there?

Just a few thoughts, none of which solve your problem... sorry about that.

MPEG-1 is all progressive, so it should be a piece of cake to edit. I have never used Pinnacle Studio, but VideoReDo and MPEGVCR can both edit MPEG-1 video (and MPEG-2) with no problems.

Note that some DVD authoring programs won't accept MPEG-1 video and will re-encode it to MPEG-2. If your video bit rate is below 1856 Kbps and the resolution is compatible with VCD, then your MPEG-1 video should be fine for DVD.

Your PC is more than sufficient for MPEG-1 work.

What is the model number of this JVC camera?

I've never heard of one using MPeg1 format.

Thanx for the reply.....model # is GR-D72. Software used to import video to the computer is their proprietary package called Image Mixer (V1.7). Video plays just fine in the Windows Media Player (Start/Pause/Continue).

Just having the "freeze" in Pinnacle.

  5. are you sure it's not mjpg? i'm with eddv on this one.

if the cam is capable of firewire transfer then get it some firewire. a pc add-in card and cable cost about $20 and the quality of the video will be much better in DVavi.

The GR-D72 is a miniDV camcorder. As such the better way to transfer the video is over IEEE-1394 with the camcorder in "vcr" mode and Pinnacle Studio in DV capture mode. After editing you can export to the format you choose. The quality will be dramatically superior using this method.

  7. What Pinnacle support can't tell is that Studio is a piece of crap. Always has been, always will be. Don't expect it to work with anything other than DV AVI and maybe uncompressed RGB sources. Even with those it will be touch and go if you try to do anything complex.

Thanx for the input.....further review of manuals and also for the Adobe Premier Elements manual, shows that neither will "Capture" with anything other than Firewire. Unfortunately, when I got my computer, I neglected to include Firewire in the package....whoever thunk I'd wind up editing videos.

I am currently helping out our local TV station and they provide me with raw video on a DVD.....it imports easily to Pinnacle, and I have never had a problem with editing anything they provided.

Frustrating that I can't edit my own video from the JVC....I am currently in the process of downloading (2.7 Gig) a trial version of Elements to see if I can edit my JVC videos with their camera. I'll keep you all informed if I can get it to "play nice."

  10. You are apparently transferring the video throu USB?

With this type of camera, you are making a serious mistake, plus wasting a LOT of time, using anything but Firewire. 1394 allows an actual file copy with the best quality available.

I am assuming you are using USB as no information whatsoever has been given on the "capture", other than that Firewire is not being used. Most units that offer USB do so only in a lower-quality mode.

Did I mention you should be using Firewire?

You can add IEEE-1394 (aka Firewire, I-Link) as a PCI or PCIe card or as a PC card for a laptop. Or just transfer on some other computer in 20min chunks and save the DV-AVI file to a data DVDR.

You are correct, my transfer was via USB....I know that Firewire would be optimal; however, cracking the case has always sent me into fits of panic. However, if I want to continue with my new found editing skills, guess it is about time to get over it. If perchance I do wind up screwing the pooch, my loving wife I am sure will push me into a new quad-core box.
    Cheers....

Not needed. I don't have a quad core yet. You my friend are a 12 years back.

Just get an IEEE-1394 port. Your USB transfer was 352x240. Pure crap intended for NetMeeting.

Yes there are many people that have experienced that problem :P , the solution is don't use it.

Having said that get the firewire card as already suggested.. It's quite simple to install. Basically unplug the computer. Open the case. Touch a metal part of the case to discharge any static electricity build up(this is important). Push the card into an open PCI slot. It should be plug and play.

Final post....ordered a new card and appropriate cable to be delivered Monday.

Was able to edit the "problem" clip just fine in Adobe Elements.....bottom line.....it's Pinnacle's problem.....they just don't know how to address it, or even worse, refuse to recognize that it exists. Thanx to all for your input.

Pinnacle issues "interim" versions of Studio that, in my experience, will not work even with their patches. Of course, they will upgrade for another $69.99. I just threw my Studio software into the trash.
