  1. sorry if this belongs in a dif. forum, but I thought this was the only Mac forum

if I want to make a plain data dvd, ie a lot of QT files, do I use Toast in the usual way, 'data' and drag ovber etc the same way I make a data CD?

apretty dumb question, but Im running very low on DVD-r's and did not want to waste one

    thanks rotut

  2. Select 'DVD' under the 'other' menu, add the files/folders you want and then click burn. I have Toast 5.2, don't know if it's different with 6.0. The cool thing about backing up to DVD format is that the disc can also be read by PC's (with a dvd drive of course)...

In Toast 6 you click Data, then DVD-ROM and burn as a data disc.

Choosing mac/pc just ensures both platforms can access the data

  6. Of Course!!

afterall, the DVD-R's are all PBS Cooking shows in QT.mp4 format going to Norway.

hope they will be readable on PC's can't find one anywhere around here to check.

lots of BBQ and that sort of stuff. If they thought the US was odd before they see these....

then of course this might be the Next New Thing in Scandinavia

    thanks rotut

Yes they are different. DVD-ROM is UDF format. PC&Mac is a hybrid ISO 9660 disc that defaults to CD-ROM XA format. Probably since it detected a DVD in the drive, it switched to CD-ROM format for this ISO 9660 disc. I dont know if it will work in a PC but certainly report back if it does.

To me, all DVDs should be burned as UDF so theres no problem on any platform.

i also burn dvd-r as iso9660 either for trading shn/flac files or for burning multiple divx/xvid files for playback on my standalone dvd/divx-player. my settings in toast 6 are "CD-ROM / joliet", works great, no problems on mac or pc or standalone player...
